Hi Forum : I just saw the notice by 3D Warehouse, that the models will no longer be compatible with Sketchup 8 and Sketchup 2013. What about Sketchup 2016 ? garystan

Very nice! Your designs and renderings are getting better each time.

Bryan K : P.S.------I took a look at your portfolio. I love that one scene with the trees. It looks like an outside area, but it's mostly shaded (by the trees). Now THAT'S quiet. garystan

Editing Materials for Models
TIP : When I import a texture or material from my Hard Drive, I change the label to say what that texture (material) is for. For example....I import (to Wood) a wood texture and want to use it in my model. When I use that wood texture, for a wall, I label the texture in IN MODEL "wall". That way I can find that exact texture easily. Especially if I want to edit that texture it's easier to find (in the IN MODEL box). Same thing with colors. Editing a color from COLORS. If that (edited) shade of red is used for a cushion.... I re-label that texture CUSHION instead of color code 038. Again.....if I want to edit that particular object in my model, I just look for the appropriate color/label in IN MODEL. garystan

Posting Renderings
Hi everybody : Hopefully, this is the right place to post this question. When I "attach" a rendering (for posting), I noticed the "Place in line" button. What is that option ? Thanks............garystan

A-Frame House
Hi everybody :
Excuse the inaccuracies, this is the first A-Frame that I did. Note of explanation.........the cushion, in the left corner / lower level, gets inserted into the couch pit....to make a LARGE bedding area. Just move the table to the side. garystan

Creating Templates
Hi everybody :
What would be the best way in creating a template for custom windows ? I've created several custom windows with a shape other than square. I'd like to be able to transfer that shape onto the outside wall of a building / home and cut it out, then....have a duplicate shape (of the window), the window would fit exactly. Thanks garystan -

garystan, Really like the tone of your render. I do agree that the shadows seem a little off for a sunset/dusk scene. I don't understand your comment about shadows limited by the software? You can get very raking shadows by adjusting the time and month settings in the SU shadow window. I've attached a quickie render as an example. The time is 6:30 pm, the day is August 26th. Both set in the SU shadow window. It got me the very long raking shadows you'd see late in the day.
tuna1957 :
Now THAT'S a shadow. Do you set the GeoLocation ? The reason I ask, is that (if I'm correct) by using GeoLocation, you set the Longitudes and Latitudes for the sun. Thanks.....................garystan -

Looking good! That's just a jpeg background? Impressive!
Honestly, you are steadily improving and this is quite good!
Bryan K :
Thanks for your comment......even though I "hit a pot hole" now and then. And....even though I know there's more for me to learn. garystan -

Are you using a hdri background? If you do the sun should be turned off and the hdri should give you better shadows for the scene.
Mike Amos :
I'm using a .jpeg as the background. It's just a software limitation on the angle of shadows. Thanks for the advice. garystan -

I think that shadows should be more elongated, if they are coming from Sun.
nlipovac :
Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, with the software, I couldn't extend the shadows any further. garystan
