Iv built up a library of models in SU from projects i put on hold, projects I lost interest in and finished projects, but iv no more use for them, I never open them anymore so now I feel it's time to part with them, so I ventured off and looked at the usual sites were assets could be sold, but and there is a but, on these model selling sites there doesn't seem to be many SU models, now this surprised me as iv seen some posts here on SCF of certin models which the modeller says I'm going to sell it on beep beep beep and beep beep beep, and there are no traces of these models in the SU search on these sites, are my missing something here, do SU models not sell, or do modellers change the format of the model to .OBj or .FBX and so on so that the model doesn't appear as a .dae which would opt out of the SU searches?

Iv never tried until now to sell my models but is there a guild to even prepare your model to sell it, for example should I change the format from .dae to another format or leave it, i would like to know how exactly I should prepare a model for selling, how should I present my model and what to are the does and donts.

Maybe someone who has sold models via model asset stores could share some tips and help others to be more prepared, like myself.... πŸ˜„

I take models for free from SU warehouse. Then use TGI3d upsample plugin to make them ultra high quality models. Im a Cheapo πŸ˜’

actually, triangles would work fine for me.

I just want to be able to sculpt the ground. I tried subdivision but the triangles are all different sizes... i want them to be all around the same size!

If you are, and i might be wrong, trying to landscape, use sandbox πŸ‘Ž (garbage IMO ) or Artisan πŸ‘ πŸ‘ (excellent) or even TGI with its construct points πŸ‘ (so-so for landscaping)

...Perhaps u could describe what exactly you are trying to make. That will help alot

      hi,

i guess the author of this thread does not come here very often πŸ˜„

      ....

so i decided to model the whole thing, and so far here's what i've come up with. according to wikipedia's description it should be correctly set up, but it still doesn't look like on the pictures; although i've only tried it only with sunlight and not artificial light sources... anyway, i feel like i'm one step closer (to the truth of this material's behavior).

my progress so far in attachments.

      I cant breach copyright laws

      ....

When you are modelling, stick to bump mapping to reduce render time. And when you have something so small it may be possible to get away with noise bump and create the same effect. But that depends on what you are achieving for the final render.

PS. Why dont you start a new thread titled "Texture map help needed"

Lumion can do 3D video output (the latest Pro version in effective HD size) like this one (leser size and medium quality): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wwgLWx2qa4

Ah yes, and lumion is expensive, I looked into this before and I found a plugin which exports 2 animations from SU which gives the same effect, unfortunately it doesn't give the option to export 2 separate skp files so you can render both animations which would give the same effect as lumion, but saying that I did do it manually once and created the same animation twice, for the second animation I moved the camera for each scene right of the original path, I moved each camera the same distance from the original,I also tried this using keyframe_animation tweens to create the same animation twice in 1 skp file, I then rendered both animations and got the same effect as the 3D lumion video displayed above.

The only problem I had with this is it's very time consuming to do manually, I'm surprised there hasn't bring a plugin designed to do this automatically, I manged to get great results doing it manually.

Would plugin makers be able to run two duplicate instances of SU at the same time where geometry and textures edited in SU instance 1 are copied and duplicated exactly in SU instance 2 ? Then perhaps get the plugin to render SU instance 2 to run a different angle to SU instance 1 and automatically merge both outputs together in one go ❓

      hi fuzzion,

that looks quite goood. however, i can't seem to find that material at the site you provided; any clue, where to search? or could you zip & upload it here?

I dont have permission to re-upload. But its here

You can play around with the bump mapping to get different results.

You could send him the texture and he may make something for you. His quite the
wiz-kid when it comes to VFSU materials.

Very nice and cool 3d effect.

Btw, this just came up on tomshardware.

Leap Peripheral May be the Future for Gesture Controls

This is leap, a new motion sensor peripheral that works through gestures. While you may draw comparisons to the Kinect, the Kinect has nothing on Leap’s accuracy. The Kinect is able to detect full-body motion, but isn’t accurate enough to detect hand gestures. Leap, on the other hand, is able to detect gestures accurate down to 1/100ths of a millimeter within a four-foot area. Such sensitivity is required to read users’ most subtle finger gestures to allow daily computing without frustration.

Imagine the host of possibilities that can be unlocked with Leap Motion’s technology. Besides having the ability to replace the mouse, the Leap Motion can be yet another step into motion-control gaming. Maybe we can finally experience a twitch shooter by making a β€œpulling the trigger” gesture... or, if you’re less ambitious, play Fruit Ninja without the glitches experienced with the Kinect version.

The folks behind Leap Motion are currently seeking out developers who will develop apps specifically for the peripheral. Developer Kits are available for free to those looking to request one. All you have to do, according to Leap’s website, is wow the Leap devs.

At the consumer level, the Leap is expected to be launching next year for $70. Pre-orders are available after filling out a form on the Leap website.

Sketchup developers πŸ˜„ You are being called.

I am about to be contracted to model a large piece of flying machinery. Along with the model I will be providing schematics and interactive 3D environments so the mechanics can look at the way the engine is built or how the wing is assembled. This will be my first job doing this. I am fluent in most CAD softwares. However, I didn't know if some of you had any recommendations for which softwares to use with each other. For example, I was thinking about doing my modeling in Sketchup then using Inventor for my schematics. I'm not sure what to use so the end user (mechanic) can rotate the part and look at it or click a name in the bookmarks and the view change to that part, ect. All input is greatly appreciated.

      Edit: Hi josh.

Would not really trust SU with precision. Inventor does stress tests as well ontop of what you stated.

You could use SU to project a visualisation of what you intend to make. Quick and fast.

Not sure how good SU pro exporters are since i use the free edition. Okay not really free since i had to pay over $1000 in plugins & renderers
