I enjoyed exploring the design Aaron.

Its defenately a 'dream house' but I imagine a bit of a nightmare to build. However well worth the effort πŸ‘

Please keep us updated on progress.

Here is a video I have made of the completed home.

Wow! Thats one big project.Fantastic space. Reminds me of a James Bond set. How long did it take you?

James Bound! haha even James Coburn In like Flint hahah

Its been an ongoing project for about 5 months, maybe six now, working during off days from work and any available free time I could find. I really enjoyed creating it. This house started as a sketch of some roof shapes like looking down from the sky at a houses roof, then I found out about Sketchup, and set out to find out if curvy organic roves could be created with it, and some good people here directed me to the right plug-ins that made it all happen. I just never thought it would look like it does haha.

Thanks to the ease of SketchUp and the real-time rendering of Lumion is why it looks the way it does, thanks to some objects by some of the awesome modelers on the 3D Warehouse. (I LOVE LUMION!!)

I'm already working on the next home, surprisingly its a simple gable design, I just wanted to do one because I will probably never do one again haha. but at the same time I'm working on a minimal design which is totally different in feel and appearance from this home.

      Thanks for the comment.

Oh ok Brian K its very good work and your cursing paid off haha. I am thinking of trying the Vertex Tools to try to have more control with the organic forms I am trying to create. I do agree sketchup is great even without plugins, in fact the very first organic roof shape I tried in sketchup waswith its basic tool set.

My sketchUcation continues I love it!

Thanks for liking the home Mike, I have had a rough time with modeling it that's for sure. I am just about done with the entire design I have been creating the pool and decks and fine tuning some things so I can create the final renders. I will post the pics soon.

      Thanks again

Thanks Bryan K, I appreciate it, I did check out your models and renders, wow! very good work, did you use sketchup to model all of your models? If so what plugins and tools did you use for the details on the vehicle and the camera, and on the couch with the mesh showing?

Thanks pbacot, it took about a month on the design to get the house to the point it is now. When I look at what people are creating with sketchup and how good their work is I see I have so much to learn and I look forward to it.

This is the Dubai Dream Home 2014 with it's kitchen finally completed, renders are from Lumion, home modeled in sketchup.

I will be adding a full video walk through in a couple of days on youtube.

lumion to me is the best real-time renderer. Cars are not model by me just their render settings.

      Hope you like it.

I am already working on the next house with a completely different style more less a modern minimal design.

A updated model of the home can be downloaded at the Sketchup 3D warehouse by searching for (UPDATED)Dubai Dream Home 2014 With Interior or at this link: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=ue8f8591a-40a1-4fd5-94bc-ceedd0e47aec

Ok mac1, I did not give up on your instructions and it finally worked, Woo! What I did was to copy the entire model and paste it into a new empty sketchup file, then tried the purge with the nested box selected, and it worked!!!!!!! Thank you. The file size was 87.2mb and is now 22.8 that's a huge decrease in size of 64.4mb Thank you again.

Thanks for the response, I've tried what you have suggested, when I did try it sketchup crashed, so I tried it 3 more times and it crashed each time.

    • Final SketchUp File Size Too Large

I have just completed my first fully complete house design, it's about 7,000 Sq. Ft. not to much detail but I think enough to understand the design. I wanted to add the house to the 3D warehouse but I notice the file size is 87.2 MB, I was shocked! I've seen other models much larger than mine that are like 5mb or under 20mb, even with trees cars and furniture their file sizes are very small. What am I doing wrong?

I have been studying how to use sketchUp for about 4 months and have learned a lot, I have also looked in the forums about file size but the things mentioned only dropped the size 3mb's. I've removed all the materials leaving the home only white, I deleted all other items in the design leaving only the house. Nothing has changed the size is still 87.2mb.

I've look at some other large models and notice as I orbit them most of the objects disappear and only show a bounding box while orbiting. I'm wondering is that one of the reasons why their files sizes are so small and if so, how can I apply that to my model?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks! πŸ˜„

    • RE: Organic Freeform Roofs

      UPDATE!

I want to thank the Sketchucation website for a place for sketchup users to come together and share knowledge on many aspect of sketchup.

I have always loved organic architecture like what Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, and Guy Dreier create.

I would always imagine houses in a way that I don't see much of, and would make sketches of what I would see in my minds eyes but I was limited in what I could draw. Before I found out about sketchup three months ago my ideas were only in my head and some on paper, but now its like I have been given the keys to get them out in a way I never thought possible.

So I want give a special thanks to Tigs and Cotty for pointing me in the right direction, the video by cotty helped a lot and the tools recommended by Tigs were the right tools. Thanks

I have added some pictures of my test project house I call the Modern Bungalow I designed using the extrude tool, fredo scale, joint push pull and Kerkythea to render it. I also found a lot of new textures.

      Thanks Again.

I am so excited about skectup and what it has allowed me envision πŸ˜„

Cotty thanks for the example. WOW! That was awesome! That's just what I want to learn. Great example. I never thought to draw on a box first to get my shape.

Did you use CurviLoft to get the mesh?

    • Organic Freeform Roofs

I am trying to learn Sketchup, I have SketchUp Pro 2013. I like to design modern homes like Architect Narendra Patel. A lot of my designs require curvy organic roof shapes which are not so easy for a newbie like me, so I am here reaching out to the Sketchup community of designers and Architect with much more knowledge than me for assistance.

I have added a link to some examples of the roofs I would like to learn how to create in a easy way. I am hoping there is some kind of Sketchup plugin that will make creating organic roofs easy. Here is the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/119010194@N07/

I have also added a pic of the current house I am working on.

Thanks for your help in advance.
