imo, all sketchup free development could cease at this moment and the free users would still be left with a great product..

years ago, i spent $500 on an app that was far inferior to what sketchup free is today.. and i was hyped when i bought it!

but they're saying that a free version will remain available and i honestly don't see them down scaling the free version to something unusable.. in fact, i really don't imagine they will downscale it all..

I believe a free version will remain, but I still have a concern regarding what will be available on that version. Also, plugins are a concern. As SU advances under Trimble, will compatibility exist for the current plugin set or will it be phased out in favor of paid plugins?

      Another latecomer - me.

      Wow.

Never expected this. To be honest, like a bunch of folks here it makes me nervous. We could wind up like a lot of software that has almost useless "freemium" and all the good stuff and functionality is reserved for paying customers.

I hope for the best and SU, or whatever it is called in the future, will continue on as it has - heavy on the community support and activity. It's definitely what has kept me with this software this long.

That sport striping crossing the rusty door is in prefect condition compared to the surrounding paint. You could make a lot of money selling that rust-proof paint!

Well done render and placement. It could pass for a photo. +1 for bringing an old hot rod to life.

Turn off system restore (virii like to hide in there)

      Download:

      CCLeaner
A free antivirus program (Avast, AVG, Kapersky, NOD32, etc..)
      Lavasoft ad-aware
      Spybot search & Destroy

Install, then restart in safe mode

Run them, one at a time.

Hopefully this will fix your problem. Reboot and turn system restore back on.

You should contact the author of the original post. I don't think it's acceptable to ask people here to hand someone else's hard work over for "study" or otherwise, nobody here has the right to do so without the author's permission - unless it's already on 3DWH, but then you could just get it yourself from there.

They have awesome baseball players πŸ˜‰ Oh and great doctors too.

      We import them too.

In all seriousness, I find the Cuba/China thing as hypocritical and foolish as any other rational human would. But then, the US has a long history of keeping or putting bad people in power, supporting bad regimes, or finding ways to eliminate those that disagree with what the government wants. I find governments completely irrational.

While I think that communist Cuba has a huge divide between the haves- and the have-nots, and there could be some serious benefits to becoming Westernized, I'm perversely kind of rooting for them because if they caved in that island would be overrun with casinos and all-inclusive resorts overnight. There wouldn't be much Cuba left, and it would become like many of the other tourist-dependent Caribbean islands. Poor people working at rich resorts for a pittance.

      .

Yes I have, had one yesterday as a matter of fact. But there are a lot of Cubans here who have shared this cultural culinary tasty treat with us, no need to give Castro our money!

    • RE: [Plugin] Honeycomber

Awesome plugin. I have enjoyed using it so far, just experimenting.

I have noticed it will hang if I breathe wrong when applying a large number of perforations. I can't tab to another program, it will simply lock SU up.

An idea - would it be possible to add a "random" or mathematical feature to the spacing and size? I.e., between 1" to 1'? Add a rotation feature, i.e. each new unit rotates 10 degrees "X", 5 "Y" and 12 "Z" (all 3 axis?), and finally to use one's own model as the subtracted shape?

I realize this may be completely prohibitive by SU's single core use and the added complexity of any intersections, but just a thought. One could come up with almost fractal-like iterations in a medium with these options.

    • RE: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SU

      This is interesting:

Load the model by double clicking the .skp file - 72 frames/2.698 sec

      Turn shadows on - 72 frames/12.237 sec

      Turn shadows back off - 72 frames/1.168 sec (?!)

Try again with shadows on - 72 frames/1.168 sec.

      Now that's just strange.

    • RE: Viral? (or how we are being sold to in the new age)

I dislike being lied to or being deliberately misled. If an advertiser wants me to pay attention to their ad, no matter the format, make it engaging and/or entertaining; but by all means let
me know that it is a sales pitch of some sort. The recent car sales video featuring the tune by Fun (We Are Young) was pretty cool, and I knew they were pitching a car. But making a video and carefully releasing it on the Internet with planned bumps from media outlets and the corporate monetary support to make it happen seems dishonest to me, a forgery if you will. I suppose it's just the way of things now.

My opinion of a true viral video it that a real amateur group or individual put something together and it was "discovered" by the Internet at large. Lifted up by the masses if you will, not by some corporate marketing office trying to tell me what I should think "cool" is.

      Jmo.
