Texturetools does exactly what I need! thanks!

RE: I need a UV plugin...
First... I'm not 100% familiar with all the plugins that are available I'll look for TextureTools.
Without any type of plugin... the only way that I know how to rotate a texture 90* would be
Right click on a plane - Texture - Position - the grab the green circle and rotate the texture, then align it until it snaps into the correct scale. It's not complicated, but if you have to do it for a few objects... it becomes tiresome. I wanted a 1 click solution

I need a UV plugin...
I like how skecthup handles UV mapping (well.. +/- )
If I'm making a brick wall and I know the real size of the texture (example 12" by 24") sketchup will keep my walls (objects) to scale.
I would like that when I right click on a plane, I could go to Textures, and find under "Position" and "Reset position" an option to: rotate texture 90* CW, 90* CCW, 180* flip vertical, flip horizontal.
Similar to "UV Toolkit (2.2.2)" but it keeps the texture in real scale.

RE: CAM / CNC ?
Thanks guys... exporting a .stl is not a problem. I use Rhino 3D and SketchUp

errror404, what do you want to do with the CAM/CNC software?
It's for a hobby CNC machine that I'm building in my basement...
I'm modifying a X2 mini mill into a CNC machine
This is what I'm trying to do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4md9aeTCbgThe CAD part I have it figure out... it's the CAM part which I need some help finding cheap solutions.
I would like to mill semi-complex things out of aluminum and copper. 2.5D and 3D
thanks for all the input, and sorry for taking so long to respond
Oh... maybe in the future, I'll add a 4th axis

CAM / CNC ?
what software do you guys use in combination with sketchUp to do CAM / CNC ?
(I tried doing a search, but the words are too small, to come up with results)

RE: Rendering with 3D trees
This might not help you... but my recomendations are:
-1- Upgrade your computer (or at the very least your ram and run a x64 OS)
-2- Get a different rendering engine like Maxwell, where you can load your 3d trees in Maxwell Studio and render from there. It has been a long time, since I rendered anything... but here is an example of Sketchup/Maxwell:

I would like to report that the issues that I was having early are now gone (since the new update).
Thanks!

Any chance you could actually tell us what you are doing in the video. It's difficult to read the menu items and so on due to the compression of the video.
I'm trying to follow your PDF instructions. When I choose Make realSection, I can give the section a name but there's no new layer created as stated in the instructions. I think there are enough folks having difficulty getting this to work that there must be a defect that needs to be fixed.
If I know what's going wrong then I can fix it. Can you open your ruby console when you are trying to run realSection and give me the errors that show up.

Guy

hello,
I'm trying to test this great plugin, but I'm having some dificulties:
1- I created a group (a simple solid object)
2- Then I created a texture that started with "_"
3- I assigned the material to the object using "Define realSection material"
4- I created a section plane
5- pressed "Make realSection" and gave it a namebut nothing happens... and no new layers are created?!
I'm using SketchUp 8 (free) on a windows machine (XP)
Can you send me the model?
It was just a box...
It didn't work on your example model either (if I tried to make a new section)
I would try later at my home computer (SketchUp Pro)Now, after looking at the video I did notice something diferent... when I make a section my model shows up hallow inside (before and after I pressed "Make realSection" )
do I need to change some type of option in sketchup?
thanks!

RE: [Plugin] Axes Tools
Pretty cool plugin!!... If I could add anything, it would be a 4th option: (Front, Back, Center, or leave it unchanged)
Lets say I'm working on a component like a window... and I modified the window to be twice as long in the red axis. I want to center the red axis, but I don't want to change the green axis (it has a cutting plane and it's not located either Front, Back, or Center).
thanks!

RE: Which graphic card to get?
is there any reason why sketchup 5 would run smoother and handle bigger scenes than v6 or V7?
thanks

Which graphic card to get?
I' buying a graphic card... my main concern it's Maxwell and Sketchup. Any card recommendations?
I'm still using sketchup 5, because sketchup 6 and 7 ran the same sketchupfiles way slower
What is the difference between the EVGA GTX 260 and the EVGA GTX 260 Superclocked Edition
I'm planing to water cool it and overclock it anyway.I was also looking at theEVGA GTX 275, but if the 260 will be sufficient, I would rather spend the money somewhere else
thanks!

lol. I don't think there's anyone who can move things around in the Studio ... easily. It comes in handy at times, but that's one clunky, counter intuitive piece of software. And it sure likes to crash! I wish NL gave it a major overhaul, 'cause it could be great!
These renders are rrreally nice.
They use the same shortcut layout than Maya... so, if you know how to move the camera and things in Maya, you shouldn't have a hard time moving things in studio.
In previous releases it was slow to move things around, in fact there was a release where I couldn't use both of my monitors at the same time. But the latest 1.7.1 works pretty good in my pc
As far as tree goes, I use a combination of Vue 5, xfrog, Ivy.... and anything that I can get my hands into

It seems that many architects and builders are now going in house for their renderings... is this an accurate picture?
Taking in consideration that most architecture school (I would imagine all of them) are exposing their students to cg.
Most office in the near future would be able to do in house 3d renderings. Now, it's up to you to make sure that your renderings are so far superior and marketable, that they will rather hire you than have them done in house.

the wood grain has rotated 90 degrees everywhere from the sketchup model...so need to address that.. and def need some more lighting by the bar... not sure what is up with the shades of the sconces..
that is weird... I guess that is why you were asking if I had problem with my textures.... Have you contacted Next limit about the problem?

Some of the nicest renders i've seen. Especially the first two. Can you talk us through your rendering process? (specifically the wonderful vegetation) and how much post process is involved?
As you might imagine Sketchup doesn't handle well heavy scenes (full of trees). So all the vegetation is added in Maxwell studio.
I have created a decent library in maxwell studio of trees, palms, ground cover, shrubs, and grass. So, once I import my skecthup scene, I simply add the trees and hit render.
As far as post work... I don't limit myself on doing everything before hitting render. for example in the rendering below you can see how I aged the walls a little in photoshop. The aging of the walls could have been done while I was texturing the scene, but that would have involved more time creating custom textures.

Those are some amazing renders! What is your occupation in real life?
I'm two exams away to become a Register Architect.... until then, I'm just a CAD-monkey okay, okay... My business card says: "Project Designer".

Using the SketchUp plug in, or exporting from SU as OBJ's and then into Max?
The latest Sketchup plugin works "perfect" for me (with a few exceptions) <- you'll need to register@unknownuser said:
Have you encountered issues about map placement?
No,
I did however, in previous maxwell plugin releases found funky black triangles ... I haven't encounter any of those yet. In those cases, I would erase that object and re-import it... until It solved the problem. Sometimes, I would change the geometry a little (subdivide it) and re import it.
I use Sketchup V 5 (for some reason, I feel that Sketchup V5 runs faster than V6... but it could be all in my head )... have you try using V5 to see if it solves the problem?

I have plenty of grays after studying for the ARE (Architectural Registration Exams), but I don't think that's what you're asking
