    • RE: Why doesn't this render?!

I'm not an expert on this, but what machine are you running on? How many CPUs or cores and how much RAM would be the first relevant questions.

I'm on a quad core machine with 6GB of RAM and I notice a significant slow down in performance when turn on shadows for example. So, it may just be that your model is taking a lot of processing power.

    • RE: Your input is required

      Hey Robert,

I'm not part of your target group so I won't take your survey, but I think one of the most significant changes brought on by easy-to-use 3D products like Sketchup is that it puts very powerful design tools into the hands of un-trained people. This is good an bad of course, but the ability for a home owner to create renderings of a planned renovation allows them to get a good sense of what they need before they engage professionals. In some cases, amatuers can avoid the use of architects or designers. These professionals often bring very valuable insight and experience to a project, but they may be needed less in some cases with these powerful tools in the hands of the regular people.

    • RE: Colored Glass

      Hi Valerostudio,

I just did a quick test, and here's what worked for me.

      1. Create an object.
      2. Select the Paint Bucket tool.
      3. From the drop-down list in the Materials toolbox, choose Translucent.
      4. Select Translucent Glass Green Dark.
      5. Click on the inside and outside surface of your object (you only need to do one side if it's just a 2D object.
      6. To change the colour, click on the Edit tab and adjust the colour settings. Make sure the Opacity is set appropriately (try 50%).

Make sure your Face settings are correct.

      1. Go to View | Face Style and select either "Shaded" or "Shaded with textures".

Hope something in this response gets you back on track.

    • RE: Dimensioning to a sideline not a point

Thanks Box. It's not intuitive to click on the nearest corner and then slide out to the point that you actually want to measure to on the line, but it works.

      Thanks

    • RE: Dimensioning to a sideline not a point

The dimension tool does snap to the side line, but clicking the mouse won't place the end point on the line. If I hold the mouse down, the dimension stays in the right spot, but as soon as I release the mouse, the end point moves.

    • Dimensioning to a sideline not a point

This may be the same issue as the Linear Dimensions post.

How do you create the dimension shown below. The end point won't lock on to the mid section of a line. I can only get dimensions to lock to corners, but what if you need to show the distance from a sideline? How do you get the dimension from a point to some point in the middle of a line to stick?
