iirc the intensity of the sun in vray is approx 364. To turn off thee Sun you need to untick Default light in the vray system rollout. Now you should see the effect off the rectangular light. try them with a intensity value of 200 to start with.

RE: Problems with the colors??
What you need to do is switch the background from SKY to Acolor and choose the colour that you want it to appear.

RE: Recent wellness project in SU
Nice image Andrija, however I would have preferred the timber joints to line through.

Hi everyone... i am a new user of vray for sketchup... and i am having a hardtime using the rectangular light feature for some reason when i render the image the rectangular light renders as 'black' and instead of casting a light on an object it creates a shadow... does anybody know why?
Sounds like you have the Rectangular light's multiplier too low and that you have the SU sun's GI casting light onto the rectangular light from above hence the shadow. If you only want to have the rectangular light cast light but not be seen then set it to invisible in the light's properties.
Always use the physical camera!

RE: This forum changes...
TBH I too am sick of the constant changes in layout. Additionally I have administered many forums/discussion boards and I know its not that difficult a thing to maintain/modify so I don't see what all the fuss is about; If you are finding phpBB restrictive then I would suggest switching IPB which is a far superior software package.
Even with the new 'optimized' layout I don't see the point in having a languages section AND a local user meet section; surely this is pointless and should be a single sub forum as I believe it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that users wishing to meet up in country where english isn't the primary language, that they would post in their mother tongue anyway. I must admit that what I detest most about this latest rearrangement is that the galleries is now one big mess. Filtering the former SU forums arrangement into the previous SU and renders galleries was a step in the right direction but what we have now is a regression to a state of clutter. I gave a suggestion (which I note was not replied to by the admin/mod team!) that incorporated the galleries into the SU user groups which would allow everyone to know what they would find before clicking each thread. Instead we now have a situation where users almost have to inspect every thread to see if its part of the genre they like. I don't know about anyone else on this site but I get sick of looking at some of the content posted that simply doesn't appeal to me hence why I think that everyone should have the freedom of choice to view content of a subject matter that they specifically look for.

RE: Halo3
I've not played much on Live myself - currently awaiting my gold membership arriving from an eBay seller but I have managed to complete the game on veteran and only a few achievements still to get.
It would be good to get a few SU users in a game at some point.

RE: Most amazing renders ever !
I recently tried Blender as a portable application running from my USB drive in an attempt to see how easy it would be to work completely with open source software. I read that previously mentioned tutorial guide and another one made by someone who was an engineer to get me started on it. What I found was it seemed like the most simple tasks took some overly complex steps to achieve what I wanted to create. The interface is 'OK' but totally confusing compared to MAX and most of the commands are keyboard based with the annoyance that you cant configure the keys to your liking. Needless to say that I quickly deleted it as it was proving to be to much of a task to use; I say that its very un-intuitive as opposed to SketchUp, which is a shame really but other people may have a better experience with it than I did.

RE: Stadium Floodlights
Hmmm very spooky, that picture is taken at my football (soccer) team's ground near where I live. How coincidental!

RE: New Bungalow
Nice model Gaz. I'm suprised to see that the model uses Scottish construction methods; ie rebated windows instead of the typical English method of windows flush with the external wall face & mastic seal. Looking at your location however, you are only down the road(so to speak!) and the weather I imagine is pretty much as wild as it is up here. Is this a common aspect in buildings near you?

RE: SketchUp Gallery VS. Renders Gallery
My Β£0.02 worth...
I believe that this matter is somewhat related to the announcement poll suggestion of arranging certain parts of the forum into separate forums for the varying genre's that SUF users use SU for. I would have expected that for each genre (whether it be Architectural Visualisation, Automobiles, Woodworking, Art etc...) that it would contain the same galleries arrangement that we currently have on our main page as a sub forum within the new genre's forum. I think keeping the galleries within the each genre's forum as sub-forums collates all topics and images in a concise method than perhaps having a forum for each genre which would be used for discussion only and all gallery work for that genre would be found in gallery category with genre sub-forums inside that. I say keep it simple and all anything to do with the genre in the 1 location
I agree that the SU gallery should only contain images exported directly from SU with no image editing. Post processed images in my opinion should have its place within the renders gallery as pushing the render button is only the first step in create a PR/NPR render; so long as any images posted are clear as to how the image was produced ( but the artist posting the image usually gets asked this anyway!)

RE: AutoCAD to SketchUP - problems with curved surfaces
Indeed that was my understanding that all arcs/curves etc... get faceted upon import and there is no setting within SU whatsoever to let you specify the number of facets.

RE: New build
Hi Luciano, I quite actually quite like these and wouldn't say they were poor quality. I've not used Artlantis but your images look good and the post production into the photomontage works well. A couple of suggestions I would make would be to add bump or displacement map/modifier to your roof tiles/slates and reduce the glossiness reflection of the texture as well; at the moment its very shiny and CGI looking. Perhaps even darkening it a little to match the adjacent house would help. You've added a good amount of detail (hip tiles, gutters etc..) but the only areas I think you can add to would be to put in some rainwater downpipes and also lead flashings to the dormer-window cheeks and chimney/roof interface.
The glass to the windows is a bit on the white side so if you can get it to reflect the surrounds and make it a bit darker and try the other things I've suggested, I think you will end up with a very realistic image. -
RE: Using 'instancing/proxies' is fun
They now have the ability to add proxies since Chaos Group updated the Vray SDK but they haven't worked out just how they are going to implement as yet; they seem to having a lot of difficulties coping with the way SU deals with a lot of other things at the moment (geometry, texture mapping etc..) but it looks like a great feature to get.

RE: .three_cabins... WIP
Nice work Jason.
One suggestion about the green roof option would be to change the texture from grass to Sedum planting else your client may be posed with the awkward question "How do I get a mower on the roof to cut the lawn?"
The last one is completely different in style. To me, it looks like a shaker-style house mixed in with modern kal-zip roof. The dark timber material looks really nice.
Any plans on doing a render with all 3 side-by-side?
Its a great start and I look forward to see it progress.

Too much grain for my taste but a very good recreation nonetheless.

RE: Indigo, baby!
Really nice images Stinkie; so refreshing to see 'spotless' renders
Going by these and Lrsuser's dining room image, it looks like Indigo is capable of some really nice stuff. Just a shame it takes so long to render.
Are there any rumours of this being improved for the next release?
