Select corner of unique geometry, plugin
Greetings fellow SketchUp users.
I am trying to find a plugin that could select the corner/edge of unique geometry. We all know how easy it is to select the edge of a square/cube geometry/plane because the edge is already there. But what about circle plane, or sphere, or unique geometries like designer sofa (one such as Zaha Hadid's sofa design)? The purpose is general (eg. sync axis location, move according to edge of axis, scale geometries, etc). Here's one example:
I am trying to sync axis location of this one model I pulled from Warehouse.

in this image, I am moving the model visually (manually) so that the lower left corner of the whole item to match the axis.

If there's a plugin to assist selecting side or corner of unique shaped models, it could help in other plugins as well such as Fredo Scale.

RE: Trimble 3D warehouse
Here's my thought on the WHO (Warehouse Optimization), algorithm in WH search engine should be based on:
-
Quality of 3D. Is the 3D model a solid model or just a plain cut-out of an object's screenshot? Ex: a speaker/an amplifier with detailed buttons, twitters, and switch, OR just a cutout of the said speaker/amplifier's front screenshot.
-
Quality of "images used". Is the 3D model including some maps/materials that are either not good quality (low res) or too high resolution? It would be a pain when designing interior with lots of image-based models needed to be imported, and some are having 5000x5000 pixels or more.
-
Status of 3D. Is it just a 3D where its grouped or is it made "component". Is the component mirror-based when it comes to editing one side of it?
Suggestion would be (from me) to let 3D reviewers add badge for items that are "render ready". So if a WH item has a render ready status badge given, it'll be more likely to appear on first pages of search. Not sure how it'll work though.
Just my $0.02

RE: Questions about Sketchup 7.1 and/or V-Ray (by DiditzZz)...
Hi Sketchucation Community. I am a regular 3dsMax+V-Ray user and I believe many people here are using 3dsMax+V-Ray besides SU+VfSU. I am just wondering if anyone happen to use models (furnitures, etc) designed for 3dsMax use, such as the Archmodels from Evermotion? Well anyways that is not important, my point of question is that how do one import a .3ds file correctly into sketchup? I find the models broken most of the time. Here's the example.
This is what happens when I import .3ds file from evermotion (archmodels vol. 36) into sketchupBut this is what it should appear in 3dsmax
Well If anyone happen to know how to fix this issue, or maybe even give me a source of models (some websites) that gives high quality models for general use (used for common program like 3dsMax but still can be used for sketchup), would be much better. After all, I cannot map the materials very well in most of the models I download from google warehouse (e.g. the fabric, cloth or leather material on sofa, office chair or lounge chair cushion, etc).
Another question is, when I bought evermotion's archmodels, some of their volume gives not only .3ds and max file, but also these extensions: c4d, dxf, fbx, fryrender, maxwell, mental ray, mxs, obj & scanline. I believe someone very knowledgeable about these programs can please tell me if they can be used for sketchup model importing? what about .3ds models compared to models with these file extensions? I need to know...
Lastly, thank you everyone for reading my questions. I hope I made it clear so that everyone can easily understand what I mean... If anyone is interested in trying to import archmodels (evermotion's model for 3dsmax's vray), please contact me and i'll gladly share some...

Questions about Sketchup 7.1 and/or V-Ray (by DiditzZz)...
Hello My name is Samuel Edyson and I'm a college student with desire to learn to achieve awesome 3D like you guys do. I started this thread dedicated to my questions regarding Sketchup and V-Ray since I'm a new user in SKetchup + VfSU (thus, there'll be many things happening that I may not understand). Henceforth, any questions that I have will be directed to this thread. I hope this community can help and thank you in advance for those willing to answer any questions in this thread. Here I go.
