But the greatest thing is that you can try both without worrying and make your own decision.

Thank you for the above...... I'm not used to a program not installing on top of the old version and killing any thoughts of going back. Very nice!

(Remember I'm on a new iMac 24")-- Installed v 7.... Like the "looks" and some of the "feel"..... using "Pan" I get the good old mac "beach ball" often..... maybe I've got to many other thing running, like internet radio, iTunes, and mac mail. Also had to close and restart once today because my "snap to indicator dots " turned into little opaque small white squares on all the drawing tools.... the restart brought things back to normal. If you look to the left side you will see the specks on my iMac, running OSX 10.4, and got 2gig of RAM. It's not a hotrod, but it also is not a slouch.....

Today I got my OSX Leopard disk to up grade from OSX Tiger..... Think I'll wait on doing this for a while.... To much new causes my brain to turn to oatmeal.....

Thanks for the advice..... any comments about my getting the beach ball or the little white square let me know... Oh, I tried the "cross hairs" while I was experiencing the issue and even the center of the cross hair had the little white square..........

      Hazza,

I can't believe you fell for my "line"...... you are correct! But it does feel gooooood when I can figure something out for myself. Sometimes I will try for a least 90 seconds..........

Hey, where can I look to find out what all the boxes/*/pencils mean next to the posts??? And if one of my posts are answered is there a way for me to mark it as answered??

    • V6 vs v7

I just installed SU on my notebook Dell running XP. To my surprise it was v7,,, not v6. Anyway, it installed good and works OK. But a few things dif.... one is, if I save a drawing on v7 it will not open on v6.

Well my main computer is an iMac running v6 (free)... Like v6 a lot... what are some of the improvements in v7 for Mac's OSX?

Any Mac users upgraded to v7??

      Thanks

Gotta be truthful.... I didn't spend "six years try'n"... I was just being dramatic....

Anyway, TaffGoch and all the rest that commented,,,, I got it! To easy. Just wish I could have figured it out instead of hollering for help.

Now,, with all this knowledge I'm off to infinity and beyond...... (probably hid a an asteroid along the way, puke)

      Thanks to all.....

      Ok, Ok... I give.....

I'm trying to draw chair backs. The back is curved and has an arc at the top edge.... I can do either very well, but can not seem to find a way to put them together....... duh!

I think I'm "wrapped around the axle' again.... Here is an attachment of the back. I need to do a arc on top.....

I'm glad that the system is back up and running OK.

Don't laugh,,,, I know it's easy... just point me in the right direction....

    • RE: Angle Dem's

      Alsatic,

Thanks for the direction to the rudy.... It works OK for what I do. It's not much different than doing it the "manual" way using the protractor and text tools. This is because, if I'm doing it correctly, you have to do three clicks counterclockwise to get the angle, then select it, explode it, and then clean up the line and arch it added to the drawing.

Anyway, thanks to all of you for the input.... (James and Chris) I'm set now,

    • RE: Angle Dem's

You Guys are Great,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, But I can do that. What it "be" that I'm asking is how do you "identify" the angle's degrees with a "leader line" and "call out" like when you dimension...

What I do now is use the "protractor" to determine the angle of the two lines as shown in the window at the lower right side of the drawing, then use the "text" tool to make a "leader line" and type in the angle's degree..... boring...!

TurboCad had a dimension tool for angles..... And, NO, I don't want to revert back to TC,,,, at least not for Apple OSX, (what a waste of my money). I used TC for Win since mid 90's, but now that I'm a "Mac Kinda Guy", don't go there, I really like this SU stuff and having fun with it.

So, if the way I'm doing it is OK, then that is the way I'll do it.......

Again thank you for the input.....

    • Angle Dem's

I can't remember how to indicate degrees of angle in a drawing. I've done it before, but just can't pull the procedure out of my tired brain....... I've spent the better part of an hour clicking around with the protractor....... I do remember it is a very easy step..... BUT,

      Thanks

    • Two Easy Program Questions

      Hey Everybody,

Doing pretty durn good with the free version 6 of SU.... I'm coming off TC for WIN and Mac's. Fun stuff for what I do at my meager level...

Anyway, question #1.... How do I determine if a new version of SU has been released? Or if my version has been updated??

Question #2.... The discussion group on "LayOut" does not have anything to do with SU v6, right?

      See ya later, bye,

    • RE: 2D Printing

      Taff, Toby,,,

First, thank you both for quick and very helpful suggestions........

Secondly,,,, I did it to myself! Got all tangled up and made things more than they are..... Seems I'm good at doing that. Only excuse is "new program confusion".

Anyway,,, To print in 2D the drawing needs to be in "Wire Frame"...... Duh.

I am anxious to down load and read your suggestions..... This free SketchUp beats the devil out of the costly TurboCad Pro for Mac's.

I'm pumped and I'm sure I'll have some additional questions later.

      Thanks again,
      Dama

    • 2D Printing

Yup, I'm a "Newbie"..... We all know how this feels...... Sorry to bother you folks....

I've been a TurboCad user since the Win 3.0 days. Got fed up with PC's and switched to Apple's iMac 24", and TurboCad for Mac about 8 months ago. Oh, what can I say other than very disappointed with the TuroCad program, but very pleased with the iMac. So, I found SketchUp and I think I am really excited again with a cad program. If I can get up to speed on this v6 freebie I'm gonna spring for the Pro. I'll never go back to PC's or TurboCad for Mac, which is a shame 'cause I grew up with them both.

I'm about 13 hours up the learning curve with SketchUp and the only real issue I'm having is as follows; (which is probably all me being to deep into it.)

I'm a woodworker that builds furniture. I draw the plans with cad. I do use some 3D renderings of the total project sometimes, but for the most part just draw flat 2D dimensioned plans.

I've set my default template to the 2D woodworker. I've drawn a simple drawer box from the top view then print the very simple drawing...... the only part that prints is the outside side lines. Nothing else prints or shows in Print Preview......If I turn the drawing into ISO 3D view every thing prints....

      What am I missing.....??

I'm not very sensitive, so being call names or laughed at doesn't bother me as long as I can learn something......

      Thanks......
