      Gaieus,

Chris Fullmer's tip is great. I think I get it now. I've got some work to do. Thanks for your advice also.

The "Beer Party" shots,,, well what can be said other than "THAT'S A BEER PARTY"! Hey, did I see several "shot" glasses?? Yes I think so,,, bad dog-boy, bad dog-boy. No wonder you've been drinking that wossie tea. The group looks like my kinda people....

Thanks for sharing and for the help.

      Remus, Gaieus,

All these questions I ask always seem to become clear after there asked and I read the responses, then I think about it for a while. Just wish I was as "up to speed" as some of the folks I read here. Their questions are stellar!

Anyway, my problem boiled down to not "un-checking" all the layers for "a scene" that don't pertain the "that" scene. That way when the view whorls around none of the "other scene stuff" is visible. Works neat!

And my scenes are primarily working scenes. I do my "humble" drawing for something I want to build and then arrange the "scenes" to assist in my construction flow...... The attachment is kinda what I do at this stage in my SU evolution..... (be kind or I'll put you on my list, heh, heh, and I don't have a SawStop)

Hey, Gaieus,,, what do you mean "a serious beer party"??? Around here anytime beer is abundant it's serious........ Proud of you man!

      Thanks for the input,

    • Scene Arrangement

      Confused on locating Scenes.

When your model is ready to have various Scenes created what approach should be taken? Create the Scenes scattered all around in the model or run the Scenes down one of the axes? Just thought there might be a "standard" practice.

I now just scatter them all over the place and get vertigo as they whorl / spin from one to another.......

      Thanks

(Gaieus,,, if you are reading just wanted the say will miss your "mug shot" avatar, but the new one is OK.)

Good thing this "boy" has got a "SawStop". He's gonna need it........

This IS the best forum I've ever been on.....! Quick responses, good answers, helpful, and good positive criticism.

We all should have tougher skin at times,,, especially being a "beginner" at some things....

      Hey Guys,

Been looking for a "Fillet Ruby" and read your posts.... Found Didier Bur's page, went to the Ruby Depot, but only found "FilletTool.rb". AND it is only for PC's..... (Us Mac users always get the "hind t*t" so to speak.)

Is there a ruby called "fillet.rb" and other than Ruby Depot where should I look.

I miss the fillet tool, had one in TC-10.

      Thanks,

Well, I'm very embarrassed and owe everybody an apology for wasting your time reading my posts on the "Pan" tool.

As happens often between my ears I've been experiencing a short circuit about using the "Pan" tool.... SU is not the problem, just my brain.

I'm to ashamed to tell what I was doing wrong, but I will give "kudos" to Zino..... He made the light bulb come on.

See ya later hopefully with good questions......(But there is some "lag" time in Mac OSX and not in XP. Can live happily with it.)

    • RE: I want my pan/orbit back

      Zino,

Thank you for the response. You are correct! I notice the same strange "lag". Sometimes it is only a second and other times I get the beach ball for a while. And strangely, if I move the tool just a mm or two it works good sometimes. (Go figure.) If I use my Dell notebook with XP Pro all is well, but it isn't a 24" screen........... (whine, whine)

Yes, it would be nice to get a walk around or something from SU, but still, for the price I really can not complain all that much.

      Again, thanks,

    • RE: I want my pan/orbit back

      Hello Folks,

Sorry to bust in, so to speak. What you are discussing is "sorta" close to what I need. Actually, I need some Mac help.

I have a new iMac 24", maybe 9 months old. Using Tiger OSX 10.4.11 and it has an ATI Radeon 2600 Pro video card installed. (I got the machine just before Apple started shipping the iMac's with OSX Leopard.)

Anyway, my "Pan" tool has never worked properly on either v6 or v7. It will work for a couple of moves then when I use it I get the "dreaded beach-ball" for several seconds then the drawing moves.

So, If I go into Preferences > OpenGL > deselect "Hardware Acceleration & Fast Feed Back" the Pan tool will work, BUT after awhile things get weird...... like a blank screen when I toggle between x-ray and back to normal. When it goes blank I have to use select and click anywhere in the drawing area to get the drawing back again. Also, after a while I'll get the old "unexpected program shutdown".....

I am only several months old with SU and have climbed the learning curve, with large help from many on this forum, and now really would like to have the "Pan" function.

I just do not think it is my video card.... could be, but everything else, programs, work durn good..... I have tried to find if my video card driver is the latest, but can only find ATI drivers for those pesky PC's......

      cduscher,, Boofredlay,,,,

Holly Crud!!!!! Neat stuff!! Not only will this take care of "crown" it will do a bunch more for me. Boofredlay, the follow me tool does the drawing and cduscher the video takes care of breaking apart the model and making separate components.

      Can't get much better!

      Thank you guys,

    • Intersecting Crown Molding - Trimming

      Hey All,,,,

Need a kick in the right direction....

The attachment is a drawing of crown molding around the top of a armoire. It is angled at 45 degrees and has an intersecting 45 degree angle with the other molding.

I'm successfully handling stuff like chair back crests (two arcs) and other stuff with arc/angles. I use the "intersect with selected" after placing the arcs properly. Then using the eraser and trimming. But this crown molding has thrown me.

I get very close to success, but not quite there. And what I get is no longer three different components, but one object. I understand why the three molding become one object, but just can't figure out how to trim each molding, keep it in position, and finish up with an individual piece to make back into a component. Then doing the same to the other two moldings........

Any suggestions???? Hey, thanks to all for the help with re-sizing a complete drawing, got it down..... Life is good!!

      Mike

Needs to be trimmed keeping 3 separate pieces.

      Gaieus, pbacot,

You guys are great! Hope your holiday is going good and lots of stuff to play with.

Gotta confess, after I posted my question it dawned on me about the "scale" tool. And I figured out about the different ways to use it..... good stuff. Feel bad about asking, but at the time I was lost.

Only drawback is if I resize the "thing" none of my "scenes" of the "thing" change to the new size..... It's not a problem because making several new dimension scenes is easier than resizing each component or a complete re-draw. I'm back cranking down the road..........

pbacot,,,,,, I like the "tape" tool and will play with the site you sent.

Thank again to both of you,,

      Later

    • Resizing

      Hello & Happy Holidays.....

I have designed an Armoire, but now find that I would like to change the height and width only. I have studied the "using tape tool" tutorial and can use it, but is adjusts everything. I also know how to change components using the select/move tools, which would take forever to do the drawing. I just need to do a change to the entire model, but only height and width.

"RdEdits" has a great looking add on, but it is only for Windows........... Us Mac users always have to beg.....

      Any help is appreciated.

As for printing two scenes on one page; I couldn't advise more than go Pro (if you really intending to) and do it from LayOut since AFAIK it is not possible from SU.

So Gaieus,,,,, let me practice on you..... Me to wife: "Yes, I agree with you about combining views on one page of paper, dear. It would really cut down on paper usage and be environmentally helpful. Gaieus from the SU forum says that the PRO version can do this. See, read his post. What do ya think??? Maybe NOW I can upgrade? (Beg, grovel, grovel.)" Yea, that should really do the trick!!

Additionally, Gaieus, I read the string about Leopard,,,,,,, I'm going to hold off for a while on the install.... thanks.

      pbacot,,,,,

      @unknownuser said:

here may be something else happening, by your description. The jagged look of lines in printing is due to their orientation to the view, not their orthographic direction.

I think you are correct. Any issues with the jagged lines are when the lines are not on one of the axis'. Like on the taper of a long leg or the slant of seven degrees on the back of a dining room chair. It's tolerable because all my drawings are "build-only" type, not "glam" shots. All the pretty stuff I see and have in my mind when I build from the drawing.

Still, for what I do in my meager little world of CAD, SU is still better for me than my TurboCad.

      Thanks you guys......

    • RE: V6 vs v7

      Gaieus,,,

You are a great help! Blew into SU>Pref's>GL and disabled Fast Feed back.... but no help.... went back in and disabled "Hardware Acceleration"..... did the trick. "Pan" tool works OK, a little "jerky", but tolerable. But, now when I switch to "X-Ray" and back the drawing goes blank, I have to "select-click" anywhere in the drawing and it returns. I don't think either version of SU likes my video card or my video settings. I gonna work on those.

The card is an ATI Radeon 2600 Pro, Device ID 0X9583, ROM Revision 113-B2250F-212, DFI Driver Version 01-00-212. My Display Settings are: Display 1920X1200 and "Millions of Colors". I'm gonna play with that and check online for my ATI driver version.........

Actually, since I installed v6 SU a couple of months ago I've found ways around not having the "Pan" tool available. Which is alright, and I need to tell you that the issue with the "snap to" dots becoming white little squares was related to me switching back and forth between V6 and V7 many times. Today working on a chair drawing for about six hours in V7 only,,, I had no problems......

Now new question, when I print a "scene" in a drawing, any lines that are not on the "red, green, blue", are very ziggy, not nice and straight (?). Can you point me in a "clean up the line" direction? And how do I print two or more drawing scenes on one sheet of paper?

Won't be long now and I'll have enough info for what I do with SU and won't be a bother.........

      Thanks.......
