RE: Simple country barn
I used to have a Hillman Californian, about that vintage, and you matched the paint job perfectly.
You must be just smiling testing this out! -

RE: Do we have a Joke Thread goin here?
Two Norwegian hunters from Minnesota got a pilot to fly them to Canada to hunt moose. They bagged six. As they started loading the plane for the return trip, the pilot said the plane could take only four moose.
The two lads objected strongly, "Last year we shot six, and the pilot let us put them all on board, and he had the same plane as yours."
Reluctantly, the pilot gave in and all six were loaded. However, even on full power, the little plane couldn't handle the load and went down a few moments after take-off.
Climbing out of the wreck one Norski asked the other, "Any idea where we are?"
"Yaaah, I tink we's pretty close to where we crashed last year."

RE: A Thread for Fine Design
I stumbled across it here http://www.behance.net/gallery/Retractable-Concept-Printer/5113515
But a subsequent search of The Lexmark site came up blank. It does say conceptual printer, and it certainly seems feasible, but no confirmation of its development or existence.
really too bad.

RE: Cut List 4.1.5 - Mac Question
Dave Richards has written extensively about it at his Fine Woodworking "Design Click Build" blog.
Here is a link to a Cut List search I did on his site.http://www.finewoodworking.com/search/search.asp?cx=009096020989677304441%3Ayn5icbkse5w&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=cutlist+plugin
I have used it on my mac and got all elements to work, but as I recall (it's been a while) on my machine it was the file path which was placing the layout in an odd file. -

This is incredible what you are doing here. And a very interesting way to present it.
I am interested in your biogas process. I have a close friend who designs and builds gasifiers for use with waste wood, and byproducts of manufacturing such a nut shells etc.
I would love for you to describe the process from waste water to biogas.
Congratulations, and keep up the good work.Dale

RE: A Thread for Fine Design
Can't find much on the Lexmark site, but I know this would solve a lot of problems.
Seems to get up to A2.

RE: Easy way to apply a face to autocad import?
Also, sometimes dxf/dwg files are imported as groups, so you may have to double click into that group to be able to form the face.

RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion
njh
I have been using Vectorworks since its very first MiniCad version, but stopped upgrading a VW 12.5 because it is so much easier to draw in SketchUp.
Unlike you though, I was doing full 3D in VW, and although I don't remember the learning curve, it was probably because I started so early with the software (or I'm old and my mind is failing)
Like you though, I am ready to make the jump to Layout, since I already do all my preliminary work in SketchUp, it seems a logical step. I currently still export dxf's back to Vectorworks for the final working drawings compiling.
There are a lot of things that I see as failings with Layout, but I was at baseCamp, and I can assure you that The folks at SketchUp are really listening when it comes to Layout.
It seems at the moment though you have to learn the workarounds, (many discussed in this thread), and accept the shortcomings, to get the job done.
There were a lot of folks at the Layout session, who seemed to want Layout to be nothing more than another Cad program. I think this would be a mistake, as Layout offers so much more in terms of presentation potential.
In my discussions, and my question at the session, was essentially asking if it would be possible for the Layout API to be offered to developers, much like the SketchUp API which has spawned so much Ruby brilliance.
In my opinion, this would allow the SketchUp Layout folks to concentrate on the larger picture, while I am sure that we would see ruby developers taking care of the requests for line weights, and arrow types and other details.
I really can't say if this is being seriously considered or not, but I am hopeful. -
RE: Simple country barn
Pete, I don't care which you choose, I'm just looking forward to it.

Apologies for the lapse in time between posts. Just crazy busy.

I was researching small residential spaces, and if there is someone who has a handle on this it is certainly this gentleman. But in looking thought his website, you can get a feeling that this is a very creative individual. Well worth the peruse.

And the street view.

RE: What Software to learn
I think if I had the time to learn another application (which I don't) I would learn Blender. My second choice would be C4D.
But when I see what others are doing in Blender I am impressed. I have heard it is a steep learning curve though.
Keep us posted on your progress. -
RE: A Thread for Fine Design
Well Roger, I was just nosing around the internet, and thought this might be a step in the right direction.
