I have a layout file and one of the pages will not open and locks up the file. I can't delete the page or do anything to it as when I click on it it crashes layout. Does anyone know how to get this page out of the file, I don't want to start a new file as that's a lot of work down the drain...any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Open street map and sketchup?
Has anyone found a way to get the 3d content from open street map exports(.osm) into sketchup? Would be a tremendous tool to take things beyond simply geolocating within sketchup.
Thanks in advance,

RE: Label <face area> adjust format?
thanks pcmoor, that was exactly what I was looking to do.

Label <face area> adjust format?
I love using the label tool in layout to quickly grab the area of a face in sketchup. While I appreciate the 4 decimal points of accuracy in the default format, for architecture we are typically looking to round the nearest whole square foot. Its not a big deal to edit the text, but would be nice if we could adjust this. Is there is a way to adjust the format of the results?
Thanks in advance

RE: Change Shadow Colour?
I was wondering if anything came of this question? I am also looking for a way to change the color of the shadows in sketchup. when we used to hand render everything we would never use a black shadow ...blue violet or indigo always brought more life to the drawing for those of you who remember prisma colors.
thanks,
Chad

RE: Using fog with hybrid render
I have the same issue. If I render it first with raster and then switch to layout it looks good until it gets updated....I have explored several band aids for this such as using a transparent plane to separate the distant content but even that has issues with transparency and hybrid mode.

Flipped text - option to flip position, retain orientation?
I recently had to flip an entire noted floor plan left to right. the dimensions reacted in a beautiful way, keeping their readability and just flipping position. All the other notes were a different story...would be great if all text could have a flip option to "flip position, retain orientation"? would have saved a ton of time flipping individual text elements and in general re noting plans.

RE: Dimension leaders touching model
Thanks so much for the thorough and thoughtful help, exactly what I was looking for! turns out my default dim style in my template had gotten wonky. Things are now looking as expected. Thanks again!

Dimension leaders touching model
I noticed the other day that my dimension leader endpoints in 2015 are staying tight to the points on the sketchup model. In past versions of layout I thought there was a small but desirable gap between the end of the leader and the model content the leader was referencing. Anyone else experiencing this lack of gap or know how to get that back... also the dimension extensions are now pretty wild, would love to trim those back a bit. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Forgot to mention its difficult to reset the axes accurately without seeing them to right click them.

RE: Main (Global) Axes Disappears
I have the same issue. styles and view toolbar all set to show axes, but they are not showing. I have had this in models with and without the marvin windows which I agree are awesome components.
helpful to see the axes when modeling though so any thoughts would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

RE: Sketchy line style without loss of detail?
Exactly as you state, fussing with the model scale did nothing. welding and repairing edges did result in less loss of detail. We are dialing in the max export size we can achieve and will report the findings. I wish the detail slider would slide about half more to the right:)

RE: Sketchy line style without loss of detail?
Hi Dave, will definitely give your suggestions a go on the dropout length and fade factor... We typically export at 5000 pixels wide which gets us a great platform to work with in photoshop etc. We are finding we are getting a nice thin line when we bring our scanned lines in at 64pixels then adjust them to 8 and allow the software to scale the lines...We have done lots of tests and manipulations on our scanned lines but are finding once we get to 1 pixel wide any further tweeks have no impact. Welding curves and repairing lines is a great suggestion too...We are also testing out upscaling the entire model to see if that has any impact on detail...so we would save an output model and scale it up unrealistically in order to give the lines more length than they would have at real scale... will let you know how that goes.
We are testing whether physically scaling the model has any impact on loss of linework

RE: Sketchy line style without loss of detail?
Hi Dave, We have tried using all six stroke lengths and are typically using 3-5 strokes per length. Hope that is what you were looking for. thanks for your help!

Sketchy line style without loss of detail?
Is there any way to have a sketchy line without losing detail?
We do a lot of sketchup design modeling and we also do a lot of hand sketching and rendering in photoshop. It is important to our photoshop work that our hand sketched lines are complete so that we can quickly generate selection sets and apply washes etc. A sketched line with breaks in it is something we don't typically draw by hand.
We have recently been playing with style builder attempting to approximate our hand sketches... The difficulty we are having with this approach is the loss of detail that we experience with sketchy line styles... Even with the detail slider pegged to the max we see lines with gaps and breaks and lines in the distance that disappear. Any thoughts or help on this would be appreciated. thanks in advance!Chad

RE: 30 x 42 paper size
We have done some 30x42 sets and there are a few things that we learned. If using raster images, these end up being some pretty chunky drawings, especially if you like the higher quality setting. We had to break the set up into smaller groups of pages to keep the files moving along at a reasonable working pace. Also, if you are exporting PDF files from these big pages it helps get the export to work if there are fewer pages in each file.
good luck!

RE: Hidden geometry affecting scenes
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. In the first scene we are also saving the hidden geometry...Normally we don't use hide for anything other than a working tool, but the dialog box seemed like this could be done. Normally we use layers to manage visibility across scenes but in this case the element we are trying to turn off is already on a layer that we are managing the visibility of in other scenes and we didn't want to have to go back and update all scenes...was just wondering if there was a trick to getting an individual scene to save the hidden geometry as the dialog box seems to suggest is possible. Will just add the layers and update all the scenes. Thanks!

Hidden geometry affecting scenes
In sketchup 2013 have a model with several scenes. in the first scene all the architecture is on but in the second scene I need to hide a part of the building that is obscuring a view. I have been going into the second scene and hiding the geometry and then update that scene making sure that hidden geometry is selected under the save properties. Now, when I go back to my first scene I am finding that the geometry is also now off? Is there some trick to getting elements to be hidden only in the second scene or in a scene dependent manner?
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

RE: Share scenes across models
Thanks for the suggestion, we did try that approach and unless we are not understanding how the plugin works it seems to only share the active scene across models. We have quite a few scenes and 3 models... We did come up with a workable method to do this using the advanced camera tools to set camera positions at each one of our scenes. Then we isolated the camera objects, selected, and then copy/paste them into each file.

Share scenes across models
We are using sketchup 2013 and working on a large project with 3 seperate sketchup models and we have a need to bring in the same scenes into each model. In previous versions of sketchup we have used the "page exim" plugin but we are having difficulty getting it to work in 2013...
Is there a new way to shares scenes across models?
thanks in advance,
Chad
