Actually, if the main support cables are cut, the entire main span would collapse. The approaches may or may not remain depending on their length. (in this case, the damaged approaches are valid) The usual depiction of damaged suspension bridges are to destroy the roadway, but keep the main cables anchored.

That said, it is a very impressive model, matte and render! Wow!

Thanks for the great answers, especially Roger, though I am familiar with boat and ship basics. I'll be honest and tell you by not a lot, though.

First, I should apologize. My question was related to the problem with the lines that are still showing in the model. When I try to erase them, it also erases the 2 adjacent faces as well. I think this is due to bad polygon placement.

I'm sorry if my question was vague. I do very much appreciate the valuable information I did get.

The current shape of the hull is not complete as I stopped when I ran into the showing lines problem.

Thanks to Remus. His suggestion of turning off the OpenGL, which led me to turning off most of the options on my video card has made the files accessible again.

Great suggestion! I would not have thought of that. Is this a "sometimes" issue?

Video card is an Nvidia AGP 6200, DDR 2, 256meg, new.

I turned off most of the options, but could not find the OpenGL switch.

This seemed to help. I was able to open the files and work with them after a few minutes of waiting. I guess this is for the file to load completely?

Remus, thanks for your help. I was afraid I would have to rebuild those files. It wasn't the work, as I need more practice, but the thought of losing my very first projects.
