Cant give you specific advice on Vray as I dont use it.

However if you want your model to blend with the image you should study the original image carefully. Which way are the shadows pointing, is it overcast, is it sunny, can you tell what time of day it is? Once you've fully analysed the image then set up your camera or rendering settings to suit.

If you want acurate shadows on all your trees and bushes furniture etc then you will need to include them in your model so they can contribute to the render, there are several ways to do this which you will find in this forum. As you probably know this will increase your render time, so there is a balance to find between accuracy and time.

There are plenty of people here who are probably willing to help...dont be so hasty, just give them time!!!

    • RE: Stingray Concept Reworked

Is that woman massive or is the car quite small?
Something doesn't look quite right between the scale of the lady, the car and the background!
Also the blurry picture in the back ground makes me dizzy!

For the twilight renders you could try putting in a light tent HDR image and maybe a base, that might help...maybe!

but for a good rendering I think you would need to add more detail to the original sketchup model, I'm afraid i have no idea how you would do this as modelling cars is not my thing!

      good luck

Puck you're stone wall looks a bit shiny, but otherwise its looking good, especially the glass / clear chair.

Thats a nice image jeremy...Good post pro in photoshop!
Just goes to show what a difference it can make.
If you dont mind me asking what procedure did you follow in photoshop?
I tend to go for duplicate layer, add gaussian blur, set to soft light, reduce saturation and adjust curves.

would be good to know what others do!

      apart from a squinty camera!

Not up to the standards of some of the work posted here...but i'm pleased with it!

    • RE: Gabion Baskets

      That would be much appreciated!

I know they are quite heavy and I thought about trying to make them a bit lighter, but just haven't had the time yet.

I originally used skethcphysics to get the rocks to tumble into the baskets but they didnt pack as tightly as I'd hoped. I'm pretty sure there is room for improvement.

If anybody has any recomendations for improving I'd try to take a look at.

      If i may comment...?

I really like the style of the images but they seem a bit lifeless, more peoples running about the place would give it more dynamism for sure.

Its maybe personal preference but i dont like seeing photos or images of wonderful buildings devoid the people they were designed for! Unfortunately, a favourite past time of the architect...

Not sure if you're looking for feedback...but here goes anyway

I think your final image shows the level of detail you have put into the model which has to be commended. πŸ‘

But I agree with Majid, the textures need a bit more realism to be convincing.

    • Gabion Baskets

Model of Gabion baskets attached if anybody would like ot use it.
I've tried to make the file as managable as possible but it is quite heavy on the faces and edges, so it probably makes sense to use the layers to switch off the rocks until ready for export.

      It renders quite nicely too.
      Gabion.jpg
I've also attahced an elevation render, which makes a good sketchup material for when the gabions are off in the distance, as well as (very) rough bump map to give it a bit of depth.

    • RE: Smoothing a mesh?

You could try to weld the vertices and smooth your new material in Twilights material editor.

I've set it to 45 and it starts to take effect but it may not be the best setting as some of the detail may get washed out, or some of the harder edges may not get softened.

Ive attahced a couple of test renders so you can see the difference, 001 is wothout smoothing and 002 is with.

hopefully this could point you in the right direction

    • RE: Arroway wood texture question

I dont have the bundles but I did notice that the on the arroway website, when looking for the samples, it does say that the material is seamless vertically.

I would infer from that they are not seamless horizontally.

Maybe not the answer you are looking for, but hopefully of some help!

    • RE: Does anyone have some Adobe Acrobat experience w/sketchup?

If I understand what you are saying...

Export the seperate images from your sketchup model, I'm assuming a plan and a couple of elevations if you are making a blueprint type document, at a really high resolution, this will ensure fine lines.

Then using photoshop, or similar, combine the images into one large presentsation sheet the size you require. Add titles; notes; scales; whatever and then take the file down to your local printer for super sized printing, or save it as a pdf straight from Photoshop.

    • RE: Green roof components/materials

Well we used this system on a project for a couple of reasons.

The first was to minmise the visual impact of the roof from the neighbouring properties and the second was to score ecological points, we were re-introducing native species of plants that may have otherwise been lost due to development.

There are also benefits to do with storm water manamgnet as well as its insulation properties depending on which type of system you go for.

you could have a look at http://www.ciria.org.uk/buildinggreener/gr_introduction.htm

    • RE: NPR to photoreal

I really like your rendered image. The quality is good enough for any purposes, you could easily see that on the front of a marketibng brochure somewhere. In my line of work I see a lot of horrible renders that do buildings no justice what-so-ever.

      Good Job!

As for the NPR image, I think this could be given more life by adding in some trees or sky background as a watemark in sketchup. Would still look NPR but would add a bit more depth to the image.

You can quite easily change the location of the sun by selecting the location tab in the Model info pallette under the window menu.

      see atttached

just type in 180 in the box to rotate the sun through 180 degrees or as required.
