to add to Steve's reply: the Material folder will need to be made if you haven't 'saved' one from inside SU before... You can use 'Finder' [menu] >> 'File' >> 'New Folder' or save a Material in SU first... john

How do you select and rotate any section plane in the same manner you are speaking of? I select a section plane and it does not rotate in the axis normal to the plane. Rotating in other ways doesn't make sense in this context. Obtaining an orthographic view that is properly rotated to any way you need it should be a part of SketchUp but it's one of those shortcomings. And don't waste time hoping it will improve. You have to buy LayOut so you can rotate a view anyway you want (but without more trickery it will be a rotated rectangular image). Or use the plugin. Pretty easy to know the angle. I do model buildings in separate files than the site file. It saves a lot of trouble-- all my model is components anyway. Making the whole building a component is natural, but in the end what if you want a certain plan view including the site? Still can't be done unless you rotate the site itself and use the North arrow plugin to change the North direction.

Or you can just do it with the native Paint Bucket tool. No plugin required. Set the edge color to By Material. [image: 2yoC_Screenshot-6_5_20159_27_55PM.png]

Implementing grouping and layer assignment from the beginning is very important for the workflow. When I start a home, I immediately create my layers - Foundation, First Floor, Second Floor, Roof as the initial basics. Once I draw a particular floor (always draw on layer 0), I group it and assign it to the appropriate layer. Then you can draw on top of that layer to create the next group. Repeat the process and you will have a clean model with easy control.
