Not to take away from the site plan layout and excellent work on you part, I was wondering if the planning department has minumim side yard and set back requirements. Seems like you can not walk between some of the houses. The local fire department may have their own requirements. Some areas with houses this close together require fire rated walls on that side of both the structures.

Part of starting the project is obtaining a good understanding of the use of Layers and Outliner. Both are key to the project and will help you manage and control the components and groups of components for the project as they are created.

If you are good at 3d sketching, start making drawings of how you think the project might procede. Some what like story boards that are used for putting a movie together to tell the story.

If you have the wall space, put the sketches, photos and other material on the wall using masking tape. Put the plans on the wall also. Look then over, move things around as a plan for the project starts coming together in your mind.

Them start creating a list of components and how you see the components fitting together to form the component assemblies or groups. Then place the components and groups on Layers and the Outliner. You should them have a good start on a plan for the project.

Create the plan of action, them start working the plan. Modify the plan as needed and move forward. Bob

I did install the tt_lib.rbz plugin from the plugin store using the window>preferences>extensions>install extensions procedure and did not
just put the plugin direcly into the plugin folder. I when back and tried to
reinstall the pluging, but it would not let me reinstall the plugin.

However in the process I did find an updated version of the tt_comp_prop.rbz
plugin in the plugin store and installed it. The plugin is now part of my
content menu. I was able to edit a component glue property from "none" to
"any". At least the check mark located in front of "move" relocated to in
front of "any" in the menu. Is that a correct procedure and did it really
change the glue option for the component. Can someone come up with an answer.

I downloaded the TT_comp_prop.rb plugin from the post you indicated. Does it make a difference that extension on the plugin file is .rb and not rbz? I checked before installing the TT-comp_prop.rb plugin and I had TT_lib2_2.8.0.rbz already installed in e my shetchup 8 plugins folder. Will the 2.8.0 version work or do I need to install version 2.0.0? I install the plugin with the hopes that it might help me with correcting my problem with components glue to situation and allow me to edit the glue to condition.

I downloaded the plugin tt_comp_prop.rb to the Sketchup 8 plugin folder. However, the plugin is not listed in the folder contents. I tried reinstalling the plugin; but a message states that the plugin is already installed. I tried installing the plugin using "install extensions" but that failed. I love the way Sketchup can make me fell stupid.

I have reviewed all the imformation provided and fail to see anything that indicates how to change the "Glue to" condition from "none" and make it possible to select horizontal, vertical, any or sloped glue to condition. I understand that having the correct axes oriantation is required; but also assigning a glue to condition to the component is also required. The "Glue to" selection for all the components in the model is "None". The components in the model are not glued to any other component in the model. This, to me at least, is a very complex model in which I have placed alot of time both designing the house and ceeating the model and I really do not wish rebuild the model. There are so many other edit conditions in SU; why is there not a procedure for editing "Glue to"? I have four books on how to use Sketchup, including "The missing manual" and found nothing in any of them on how to edit "Glue To" condition. I try not going to the forums except as a last resort because I know how important time is to everyone.

What if I do an Edit in place with the component from the model. Explode the component while in the Edit in place mode. Then create a component with a new name and the required changes and return it back to it original location in the model? Would that work?

When creating components I chose "None" for the "glue to" selection in the create component dialod box. Is there a method for changing the glue method after the component has been created and placed in a model?

1.The face on component 1 is touching or interfacing with the face on
component 2.

2.The face on component 2 covers the whole face of component 1 and it will not
be visable on the finished model.

3.I usually delete the touching face on component 1 where it interfaces with
component 2.

4.I delete faces where this condition happens in order to reduce the number
of face as it relates to rendering.

5.Is this a good procedure? I also delete the faces to stop the "flashing"
caused by two faces interfaceing with each other.

I both hided and locked several components which are part of a model.
When I unhide the other components in the model these components
displayed in the correct shape, but they were formed using a transparent
white grid or mesh. Could someone explain how this happened and how
to make the grids go away without deleteing the components they
represent.

In the process of installing the sketchucation tools a statement was displayed
indicating in part "The extension will have the ability to access the file system
on your computer". The tools will not install unless you except this requirement.
I would like to have access to the plugins, but concerned with the possible access to
my computer files. Would someone please supply my with your thoughts on the subject.

Lets assume (I know) that there are things within basic Sketchup that need fixing. But basic Sketchup is no longer in the "development stage" it is finished. If you want to keep the development team you have to find something new on which to work. Enter Layout.
They can show a profit from the sales of "Layout" and creating Sketchup Pro and keep paying the programmers to add other new features.

The other problem is bug fixes or things that just do not quite work in Sketchup. You cannot show a profit for paying programmers to fix problems once basic Sketchup has been released. Who should pay to fix basic Shetchup, we should. That said, how many hours have we spent trying to get a Sketchup feature or tool to work properly; so we can complete the model or design. I for one, would be will to help fund a programmer whos sole purpose would be to fix the the know problems and improve the overall performance of basic sketchup.
It some point there would be a pay back for the funds spent in faster model creation. The idea is not perfect, but it might be a direction forth checking out.

The porch is overpowering the rest of the house, it is to big. I suggest changing the porch to match the style of the main roof and keep it within the length of the side of the house. I have a problem with the porch roof line where it meets the balcony railing; changing the porch roof would correct the problem or maybe I am not viewing the railling area correctly.

I thought that "unique" applied only to conponents. But it seems to apply also to groups.
So, if I select "make unique", then I can change the definition name for the group. At least it works for me.
