Hm, yes, I see how that might be a problem. But seeing as this building is supposed to blend in with nature, a few dirt stains would only help that effect. Not that bird dropping should be left there though, that's a bit nasty even for nature life. But cleaning the windows should be as simple as turning open the garden hose. :3

I had this idea to make a modern design holiday home that would respect it's natural surroundings, but at the same time would make the inhabitants feel comfortable yet in touch with nature. Therefore I've chosen for allot of large windows in untraditional shapes.

Below you have the living room, the kitchen, shower/bath and the toilet. Upstairs you have an entire floor dedicated to the bedroom. The bedroom is not decorated yet, therefore I did not found it necessary to post any screenshots of it.

Apart from plogue sounding like plague.....its a nice idea haha.

      Good thing it's got air-conditioning fart πŸ˜†

      Me toooooo.. πŸ˜„

Yeah, the name was sort of a risk. But somehow The Plogue sounds silly and non intimidating. :3 When I'm able to finance the build I'm going to build a prototype. I imagine sleeping in this thing would be quite.. well.. calming. :3

Can't go without the air conditioning. x3 Too cold is one thing in that case you could always add extra blankets, but sweeting in bed is just torture. Especially in confined places.

      What does "Plogue" mean?

Ah, thank you very much. I'll try to take some better snap shots tomorrow and put them up here. Besides, this photo is relatively old, changes were made since this one.

''Plogue'' doesn't really mean anything in particular.. at least I don't think it does. ^W^; It's just a silly name toughed up purely to be non intimidating. And besides, people will be guessing what it means, therefore adds a little bit of mystery to the bed. ;3

Though I might just recreate this. ^W^ I'd love to try it.

      Movable stairs

    • SketchUp 7 Basic - CSS-003 - Work in progress (Page 2)

[Continuation of this post: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=20878&p=175316#p175316 ]

Please note that this model was intentionally created low in details, trying to recreate the quality of the N64. I intended it to go into Second Life once it was done, however I've learned (too late) that currently importing models directly from SketchUp into Second life is either very difficult, or just impossible on this point in time.

It's a starship that I called (for now) the CSS-003 - The Scar. Directly on top of it, is a sister ship called the ESS-004 - The PhiTon. As I would think you would need something like that when you get stranded in the deep void of space.

The following images will show step by step progress on creation. Some images contain content that later on got deleted because they were either too detailed or just looked out of place.

It's still a work in progress as you can see, and many models will be changed and more detailed in the final product. But for now filesize is the biggest priority.

On the left the Medical Department lobby, on the right 2 undecorated surgery rooms.

Added textures and made slight modifications.

      The actual Cryo Bay.

Start of the cafeteria and kitchen.

The entire cafeteria. Still needs some minor work.

Just some new tunnel modules. The blast doors to seal off possible hazardous area's.

Beginning of the central control room.

Halo's Pillar of Autumn inspired consoles.

Why not post the images on here?

I've tried that, but it proved problematic. When hosted from another site, they keep disappearing as soon as the page is refreshed (or viewed by someone else). They just keep showing as ''image''. It's very frustrating.

      Or did you mean uploading them here? To be honest, I would have no idea how to do that. I'm sort of a forum noob in general. ^W^;

I'm very sorry, ever since the site on which these screenshots were hosted on went down yesterday, the photo's keep appearing as ''image'', I tried to re-enter the URL's but they keep disappearing as soon as the page is refreshed. So you'll have to go to the link provided and view the original screenshots. I'm sorry for this inconvenience.

    • RE: A real SketchUp to Second Life exporter?

      @jim said:

The problem is not with SketchUp, but SL. SL, as far as I know, uses basic shapes (called prims) to construct more complex objects in the game. It would be difficult for a plugin to take a typical SU model, analyse it, and build prims from raw geometry.

Easier to plan ahead, build your model from the start using SL prims, and use one of the SL exporter tools: http://vrshed.com/sketchlife/

But never having played SL nor used the SL tools, I may have some of the details wrong.

It would be dead simple if SL would support vertex, face, or mesh data.

Ah yes, I'm familiar with SketchLife, I've downloaded the plugin and all that. However, it's not really something I'm very comfortable working with. They did a great job on the plugin though, that they did. :3

The reason I was looking for an exporter was more for business reasons then anything else, really. I'm not an heavy active Second Life player either, but I needed something that brought in a buck or two, and since I'm familiar with SketchUp, and know there are people in Second Life willing to pay for a somewhat simple model, I was hoping to create and sell these models in Second Life.

But if it isn't possible at this time, then there's nothing else we can do I guess. Ah well, maybe they'll start supporting more types of 3D models in the future.

But thank you for your reply anyway. :3 At least I can stop looking now.

The exterior so far. It still needs some minor details, but most work needs to be done inside.

At this point I wasn't really planning to make this a real starship. I was just messing around, and saved it. The next day I decided to add a little more details, and from there on it steadily formed into a project.

Added the main defense weaponry. It got deleted later on because of it's unstable looking design.

The ribs on the sides were supposed to make it look structurally sound. It also gives me some flat surfaces to work with.

The first try-out design of the thrusters. They got deleted pretty much as soon as they were done, because they looked absolutely ridicules.

The new design of the main propulsion thrusters. They look allot better, in my opinion.

The new design of the main defense weaponry. They look allot more stable, and would be allot more efficient. They can move the 4x turrent across it's vertical axes, and turn around it's middle axes.

These would turn into basic heat seeking rocket launcher platforms.

Simple little turrents called ''mushrooms'' to protect the back thrusters. They're very small, so not very efficient against big ships. They're more a last safety net.

The first work on the PhiTon. Added the back bone, and on top of that are 3 of the main defense turrents.

      A radar-like system.

The first work on the interior. To make it more manageable I've put them into sectors. ''Sector 1 Blue'' got deleted later because I had no real plans for that space at the current time.

First raw screenshot of the landing bay. Or ''The belly of the Beast'' if you will. There's also a little size comparison to get a rough impression to how big the bay (and the ship) really is.

Frameview. Landing bay on the left, and the beginning of the engine room on the right.

Partly (simply) textured landing bay. Fences were added later.

Try out textures for the engine room. Textures will most likely be changed in the future. Haven't spend allot of time here yet to tell you the truth.

Turned of the edges for this screenshot. This the the design for the main corridors. Might need to create a second version of the hall parts, otherwise it might look boring.

Since the ship is 2.3km long in length, I toughed a trams system wouldn't be an unnecessary luxury (I got this concept from Dead Space's USG Ishimura).

The tram station textured. The red stairs on the left were later changed to a more grayish color.

The cryo pod. These will be placed in the Medical Department.

      I'll make sure to post some basic photo's of some older models so far, because I was way too lazy to put them all on the 3D Warehouse. ^W^;; But I'm not really a ''game creator'' to be honest, in fact, I wouldn't even know where to start.       That name ''Game Creating'' is sort of deceiving though, I used that name during the period I wanted to go into the game development industry, which was about 3 to 4 years ago I reckon. Nowadays I just make simple little models for the fun of it. ^W^;

Though eventually I'm planning to make a little game, or at least something interactive.

    • Hello all!

Hello all. How y'all doing? :3

I'm new to this forums, I had allot of questions regarding SketchUp and eventually got tired of searching on YouTube for information, so I came here. πŸ˜„

I'm not new to the program though, I've been using it for about 3(+-?) years. And am fairly capable with it I guess. I'm also on the 3D warehouse, known as Game Creating. I don't use it often anymore though because there's a lack of communication options there, comments can't be replied back to, and in overall it's just hard to get noticed, as I'm sure you know of if you been there before. That's also one of the reasons I came to this forum, because I rarely talk to fellow SketchUp users.

Anyway, it's nice to meet you guys and gals.

    • A real SketchUp to Second Life exporter?

      Dear reader.

Recently I've been doing some research towards SketchUp and Second Life exporters. Since (to me) it seems that the easy-to-use SketchUp, would be perfect to create models with for create-your-own-world Second Life. It proved more difficult then I at first anticipated though, because it seems that the only exporters out there (that I know of) seem to be mere extensions that only allow you to build with the tools they provide.

I overred this little detail and went off and started one of my biggest projects to date (I do relatively small projects normally, so it's not THAT big, however) I've been working on it for a steady month now, so it's kind off a pain to read later that it's not actually an ''exporter'' but more a tool to help you build in Second Life. Rendering my model useless..

This was depressing to say the least, however, it was my fault entirely. But now my question to you would be; Is there an actually SketchUp to Second Life exporter?

If you know any that are relatively simple to use, or any at all, then please let me know. I've been looking all over the place. Thank you in advance.

      ~Yours truly, B. Puma.
