RE: Where did the users of PushPullBar go?
@solo said:
PushPull was always a good read, I was always out of my depth to comment but did love rendering and modeling stuff from the masters.
Me thinks SUC should diversify to more softwares like Blender, C4D, etc and I'd love a dedicated architecture section for friendly banter and honest professional criticism and advice.
All of the above and more...
... I would love a 'Design' section and even a 'Technical' section for real world projects.
I know there are lots of forums out there for this stuff, (in my case, mainly woodworking), but even the simplest posts ramble on for 4 or 5 pages, yada, yada.I assume there are forums for Solos suggestions too, he might have similar reasons for not wanting to get involved in numerous 'others'
But I have been a member here for 8yrs (on friday) plus a few years on the old forum and I know you guys. And there are many very smart people here. And despite this being the 'friendliest' forum, there is remarkably little BS.
Su is a integral part of my working life from concept to production. It would be fab to have a sort of 'one stop shopping' where any questions and answers could be put.
For example, I am currently concept sketching an extreme cantilevered table. The top will have to be a torsion box, and I will wing it as usual as to the structural elements, but wouldn't it be great if I could run it past one of the engineering whizzes here?
This sort of thing already happens on individual threads now of course. I have several examples that I have been involved in but with the current setup you would never find them.
Pushpullbar was inclusive in that way, of course architecturally centric.
BTW: I reckon that it was targeted for a perceived bias that it was elitist. By assholes who just wanted the models.
Ps: I would join the premium club for all this.

RE: Good site with free SU models?
Comment and Criticism on images submitted, tho in this case, its not your work, sorry for misunderstanding your unclear provenence.

RE: Good site with free SU models?
That's really really good.

Please tell which bits are pure SU?PS: How are you with C&C's?

RE: Good site with free SU models?
Oh well, never mind.
BTW, I trained as a graphic designer in the late 70s, in Britain a graphic designer was someone who could communicate visually. I suppose with infographics you have to be part designer, part accountant...
PS: googled graphic news designer, no hits, must be very new. mieawww

Fast and cheap works well if the model is what I need for a specific purpose.

Well now you talkin... late here, but quickly. Easy to build a fast/cheap model if the client has a clear idea of how it will be seen. Basically, the closer the model, the more detail, the more time etc. But if a corner of a couch is all that is seen, still cheap and fast cos its only that bit has to be modeled.

RE: How do make a 3d model of this?

You need to displace a subdivided mesh so the image can act as the displacement map to raise and lower the mesh.
I love it when you talk dirty.

but I might need just about anything and most of the time I need it fast.

Well, you know what they say: You might want fast and cheap and good, but you can only chose two.
I see from your profile you are in education... pray tell your use of SU for this porpoise?

Google Warehouse?
Well, apart from the that was what I ment. Seems like they use the "free models" to fish for visitors to buy models.
Well modeling takes time and time costs.
But are you after something specific? You could always ask here. I have in the past and been amazed at the generosity of the people on this forum. ( In one case, in my uber noobie days, a member actually modeled a request for me. (Bless you Gully Foyle).

such a decent render.. great lighting ..something is just not so right with the wood texture. otherwise perfect
Realworld endgrain will not usually be exactly 90D to the boards, quarter sawn boards, (best for tops) would be up to 45D off and woauld alternate between planks.

This book by Dennis Fukai is a classic and is specifically about step by step domestic construction.

RE: Clashes... any such plugin?

Checks all components for "clashes". Adds both components to the selection when overlap or contact is found.
Wow, thanks sdmitch. Now I have to figure out how to use the ruby console
I usually stay well away from it. -
RE: Solar Explorer
Wow, great. Looks like it's cobbled together from old bits of the space station, ( which it probly will be, when you make it:).

Clashes... any such plugin?
I just had to redraw 3 bathroom vanities because we could only get 19mm sheets instead of the 16mm we wanted.
So I start to modify the 3 cabinets to expedite for my very accurate cutlist.
Was thinking one hour... but four hours of cursing later...The thing that took the time was resolving the 'clashes'. I had front/side views set up with background line, so I could see exactly what was happening. But so many components were not lined up after my 3mm increase of thickness. And then it was very difficult to get to a view where i could 'see' & fix the problem.
Then watching tv i saw a show on engineering where they had several 'Clashes', A term I hadn't come across before.
"Clash:
Refers to one building component physically yet unintentionally
penetrating another building component; (there could be more), that is,
components competing for the same physical space."Is there any way a plugin could identify groups/comps that penetrate or 'Clash'?
And isolate them for intervention in some manner?Rugs

RE: Trouble changing a circle radius precisely
@mac1 said:
why ask me when you can go to net do serach on 32 float, look at converter and see what it tells you. The actual precision of 32 bit float is equivalent to about 24 bit when you consider 1 bit sign , 7 bits mantissa. Depending on the mother board you have the actual bus may operate at more than 24 bits and conversion actually happens when the data is stored in memory.
I was sort of following this until now

RE: Trouble changing a circle radius precisely
Just tried it, and with odd number of segments in case, couldn't reproduce your problem, works fine on my machine. You could try scaling up and back, SU does have some problems with very small entities...

Support/maintence, subscription, whatever...
how does this stuff work?
i have 170+gst debited from my account
i have my receipt and new serial and auth code
(this is after about 8 mails to my new aussie provider, come back kevin!)
my new provider tells me to dl my latest su.
i open su, same as old.. with no option to input new licence info
The question is.....................
How do I apply my support/maintenance/sub/whatever to my SU. How do I see where I am at with the yearly sub. and 30 days late means another fine! and im finding the whole thing a bit stressful.Rant over...
