Then again, if ultimately, we want a equilateral triangle with for example 1m on each side.... We have to use maths...

No we don't - we use the Tape measure tool. Make a triangle of any size, measure the side, and type the length you want, and press Enter. SU asks if you eant to resize the model, click OK, and you are done. If you have other things in your model that you don't want resized, group the triangle, and do the trick inside the group.

      Justin,

      Please keep doing these

In the mid-1800s it was feared that photography would kill painting and drawing, and it is still going strong.

It is a great render as yours always are.
I think this sentence of yours raises important point in the ongoing discussion about photorealism:

      @kwistenbiebel said:

Maybe in a later phase the building can get more detail (depending on how his design will turn out)

Most architectural renders, at least here in Finland, are made early in the design process, when most of the detail remains undecided. This introduces an element of imbalance, which seldom is resolved in a convincing way. At worst the design is presented as a bland box in a highly detailed surrounding - often made worse by the car and girl-loving modellers introducing their favourite foreground entourage elements. Or then the modeller puts in detail that is unlikely to survive into the final design.

In this context your render is probably one of the best, probably due to your superb use of textures.

      Edson,

I seem to remember that you are using a Mac. You might have a corrupt Preferences (Plist) file, or something awry with your disk permissions. Just citing things read, no Mac near to check.

Mike, im not sure aobut other patent organisations, but the UK patent office wont award a patent for a perpetual motion machine (basically what these projects are) without a full working prototype. Obviously not a problem if you do have a working prototype but quite problematic for developing technologies i imagine.

I think the American patent system does not have that limitation, they often give patents to things that won't work.

Inferencing - every edge must be kept track of. OpenGL limitations.

I still remember the time when running Osnaps (basically the same thing) caused similar problems with AutoCad, especially in the 286 and 386 hardware of the time. Then Autodesk found a way to rewrite thr snapping, and it started to work like a breeze.

      scotch-dutch-german-hungarian-english....no finnish
this usually happens while on my lunch break, hence i get flustered.

      You should move to Helsinki:
Say "Good morning" to a bus driver (or cashier, you name it), and you get the "What's so good about it?" scowl. You sit on a bench in a bus and the person sitting between you and the window starts to squirm like from an itch, without saying anything. This means "I would like to get off at the next stop, please".
All this pisses me off, even as I consider myself quite a typical Finn too...

    • RE: One Component - Two models - One Style - different Look WTF?

This might be one of the "big model weirdness" symptoms. Is your model far (like miles or kilometers)from the SU origin point? Or does it have some stray parts that are far away. Typically it occurs when the model originates from a CAD drawing with some map info in it - it might be hundreds of kilometers from the origin, and it makes the OpenGL display system do weird things.

I guess I'll have to purchase AutoCAD when my employee leaves. Perhaps I can find an older version at a good price. That's a shame, because I have no interest in learning AutoCAD beyond setting up ARCH D layout pages for my plotter.
      david

I would guess that you would do quite OK with the AutoCad LT product, as yor work doesn't involve 3D modeling in AutoCad, or using special third-party applications. I think it's about 1/3 of the price of the full version.

    • RE: Problems With su2stl.rb

I see no big problem with all the short forum names, even if I still prefer using our real names, or at least giving them in our profile. Using a name that belongs to some other person, even in jest, without disclosing one's own, is somewhat problematic. Effectively it amounts to posing as that person, and in some cases could be even criminal. Doing bad things in the Internet posing as someone else, like your ex-spouse, is, I understand, not uncommon.

Aren't there already quite a few file exporters written in Ruby? Indigo, Kerkythea, STL spring to mind. And I rememeber someone making a half workable OBJ importer too. All text-based formats with a documented structure, like DXF, should at least be possible.

      Kook Kai,

Before giving up, you could also try unchecking the "enable Fast Feedback" option in the SU Window>Preferences>OpenGL pane. This will have a minimal effect on SU performance, but the display remains much faster than if you turn off the whole "Hardware Acceleration"

    • RE: Texture bug

You can quite well use a texture that big, but SU will downsize it to 1024 pixels. It is not too good at that, so it is better to downsize the file in Photoshop prior to using it in SU.

So your problem should not be of size. SU has recently been reported to have difficulties with JPGs with embedded EXIF camera data that have been imported from the Mac to Windows. Also, SU cannot use images with the CMYK colour space.

      Just suggestions
