Also check that your display controls are set to the SU recommended values, especially Antialiasing should be set to Application controlled.

I also have a notion that some mouse drivers, like Microsoft Intellipoint or Logitech Mouseware cause problems like this, that go away if you uninstall them and use the Windows automatically installed default driver instead (of course if you have some ultracool whizbang mouse with a zillion buttons, you will lose some functionality)

      Just suggestions

    • RE: FP Virtual Tour

SU has the Walk tool, and the free SU Viewer has it too.

I don't know how it stands today, but there used to be a plugin (?) to Blender that was able to produce an EXE file of a model that worked like a game. I have only seen demo walkthroughs done with it, so I have no idea how the feat was performed, but they looked quite cool. A SU model can be brought into Blender at least via an OBJ or 3DS file.

So by unchecking that box, my model will not come into real world coordinates correct?

No it will not, but it is your only option, as SU is not able to handle coordinates as big as the real world. 😞

Usually problems start to arise when a model is a mile ot two across. If tou have to bring the model back into "real world" coordinates, position it so that the SU origin point is at an easily identifiable spot, to make positioning it easier.

      Simon,

An aside: If your image is of an unpainted model, you seem to have a lot of back (blue) faces visible. If that is so, you had better reverse them before applying materials, especially if you intend to render the model with some external rendering software.

    • RE: Somewhat newb beginning questions

"Flickering" can also be caused by a clipping effect that usually is a symptom of the SU model being too large for the OpenGL display system to handle reliably. It starts to happen with models bigger than something like a mile across, or if a smaller model is situated far from the SU origin point.

Still another display glitches-causing thing is the infamous Shadow Bug: When the SU camera is inside a shadow, the shadows start acting weird.

I looked at it a little further, and the odd thing is that it happens with only one file. And the error read "Please enter an integer between 1 and 99"(normally the max. is 20). Funny.

      Remus,

There should be nothing wrong with my old license key - it works on my other machine (I just checked). The working one has XP Home (Finnish), and the not-working one has XP Pro (English)

My wife has the same problem at work, they still have only v.4.

This happened on my work computer and SU 6 Pro: It wouldn't let me set the value of Profiles in the Styles>Edit dialog to 1. All other values are OK. If I try 1, I get an error message "Please enter an integer between 1 and 20. I am baffled...

    • SU 4 lost authorization and stopped working

From time to time I still fire up SU 4. Yesterday I needed it again. Up pops the Evaluation dialog, so I looked for my authorization information and tried to re-enter that into the Authorize dialog. No go. I enter the info, and SU goes back to the Evaluation dialog. Clicking on Continue just closes the dialog - no SU, even in evaluation mode, appears. Has anyone else encountered this?

    • RE: Video display stopped working and recovered - nvlddmkm

I can only say that if possible, you should upgrade to the latest driver version (or if you already have that, downgrade to a different one) They can be downloaded from the Nvidia website. Graphics cards often ship with drivers that are outdated when the product reaches the customer.

My old ATI card kept crashing with SU until I upgraded the driver. SU relies heavily on the OpenGL display system, and if SU is the only 3D design software you use, it may be the only application in your system to require a functioning, bug-free OpenGL subsystem.

    • RE: DWG Export with incorrect units

      Thomthom,

SU uses the correct units when exporting, but there is IMO a bug in the exporter, as the internal scale flags in the resulting DWG file all point to inches all the same, so unless you take care, AutoCad will import the file 25.4 times too large.

I have resolved this by turning all import scaling off in AutoCad. It involves setting a small bunch of system variables, most of which can be accessed through the Units command. I never need AutoCad to scale my imports, so I have set all these to Unitless.

    • RE: Mouse leaves pixeltrace...

The OpenGL options for SU are on the Preferences>OpenGL pane. I don't use a Mac, so I don't know where the preferences window is to be found on a Mac, on the PC it is in the Window menu, but I think that it is placed differently in a Mac, maybe in the leftmost (Sketchup?) menu. As I said in my post from spring, first try unticking "Use Fast Feedback", only untick "Use Hardware Acceleration" if the first one doesn't help.

    • RE: Only above average IQ people should vote????

The idea of an objective definition of an IQ has time and time again been proved to be scientific nonsense. Tests show test results to be very much culture- and education-dependent. I haven't looked at this particular case, but I think talking about IQ-s is mostly a kind of self-flattery. Your usefulness as a social being is more about what you do, not how you have placed tick marks on some stupid paper.

And taking an IQ test can also be practised. After taking one that looked much like one at architecture entrance exams, another one taken at the army some months later was very easy to pass.

Either manually, if you are a masochist, or using the Soapskin & Bubble Ruby.

Or the Sandbox from Contours tool.

Anssi, did I read somewhere that Finland is trying to de-socialize itself?

Maybe you did read, but Finland has been ruled by coalition governments (with 'bourgeois' majority except in 1906-8 and 1966-70). So it has never been socialist. So maybe you are mixing us up with the small Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia) that were occupied by the Soviet Union in WWII. Even they have already had since 1991 to de-socialize themselves.

All the better. Still, Palin tried to get books removed. Bad thing. B-A-D.

I'm a bloody foreigner but according to snopes.com the claim is false.
As a foreigner, what worries me is the US foreign policy after the election. Will the US isolate itself again, or keep an active role, perhaps with more negotiations than before?
Will Iraq and Afghanistan be left to their fates to satisfy the American voters?

I am quite unable to say which of the candidates is better for the world at large, and in the debates these seem to be some kinds of non-issues. Kennedy may otherwise have been a totally corrupt person but he succeeded at avoiding an all-out nuclear war.

I seem to like more and more our local political system where the power is divided between the larger three or four political parties that are forced to compromise to form a government. The result is a bit dull, but it lacks the bipolar fluctuations, and everyone, except perhaps the poorest, are treated more or less fairly

    • RE: Outside vs inside edges - different thicknesses

      Hi

The thicknesses of individual edges in SU cannot be set. The visible thickness of lines is determined by their character and position. Lines dividing surfaces or at corners with both sides visible are thin, and other edges are thick, as well as edges belonging to different groups or components, even if they meet.

Looking at your model, exploding the components made the surfaces partially to fuse, achieving what you want, but when you look at your model closely, some of the edges in it do not quite meet, so exploding does not help them.
