    • Andyc---I'm back...and the weirdest request ever...

Hi Guys..... nice to be back...been absent for too long...work..life...etc.... 😄

Accumulated a load of work that i'll be posting up in the gallery next week 😄

OK..weird request to any of you old regulars who have 3 minutes to spare... see this duck(from a kids tv series in the uk)...got a little bet on with a very, very dear friend of mine...to get a drawing of it, from random people...and you're the most random collection of people I know 😉 Weird request I know... i would explain...but it would take too long... 😲 😉

      http://www.thetoyshop.com/media/toyshop/products/Vivid/Timmy/Zoom/369488_Yabba.jpg

So if you can spare 3 minutes...do a quick little scribble of it and post it up here...before midnight tomorrow please. No prize except my gratitude...

      cheers guys.

      Andy.

    • RE: Concept art / matte paintings with SketchUp

Hey Alex - wondered where you'd been hiding. Obviously hard at work. Great work as usual, and always nice to see SU integrated into a production pipeline. Always look forward to your posts.

    • More Concept Art....

      Hi Again.

This piece is from the same project as my previous "City Street" thread. Same workflow. SU model and paint-over with Artrage. The model was built (badly) using mainly stock components.
Real quickie this one, 2hrs start-to-finish. If I get the chance I may revisit this and refine it a bit.

    • RE: WIP Bridge House - Trees or no trees?

Hi Pugz: maybe flip the image over - we tend to read images from left-to-right, so we follow the bridge across the river... And I agree with solo re. the trees. Apologies for the crude image attached....

Great render, anyhow 😎 Nice work.

      Hi All,
This follows on from the last piece I posted. Same workflow: SU and ArtRage.

    • Concept Art - two new ones....

Hi All. Been a while. Busy, work, etc......

Anyhow, wanted to share two recent pieces from a personal project. Usual workflow - crappy SU model and a ton of paint. However, I'm now doing 90% of my painting using ArtRage. The latest relaease of this software has introduced some great new tools, which have made it, for me at least, a viable alternative to Photoshop for this type of work.

    • Two new works.

      Hi,two more from me:

First off - this bridge illustration. Real rush-job on this one - client wanted it 'yesterday'. About 2hrs total. Working from a supplied photo I built a quick SU extension, before painting over with ArtRage and Photoshop.

      bridge_002.jpg

And second, another quick one. No photos this time, just a rough SU model and painting...

    • Andyc - online portfolio

Hi All - been a while.

Not sure this is the right place to post this (mods - please move if not) - but I've just updated my online portfolio here: http://andycollis.daportfolio.com

Almost every piece here involved SketchUp at some stage - either as an underlay for painting, or as the basis for rendering. Some more work will be added over the next few days, but in the meantime, please take a look, and I'd be very interested in any thoughts you have.

Oh, and as I don't get on here very often these days - season's greeting to all of you.

      best,

      Andy

      p.s. Gaieus - I haven't forgotten... 😉

    • Concept Art

      Hi All.

Due to the 'slackening' of an NDA that I've been working under, I can finally show you some of the stuff I've been doing for the past few weeks. All the pieces below involved SU to a greater, or lesser degree.
Credit for the helicopter models is due to 'ospenespen' whose model I 'acquired' from the 3D warehouse. All the other pieces used simple SU geometry as a guide for the painting.
As ever, thanks for looking, and comments always welcome 😉

    • Morning After

Hi all. Thought I'd share this bit of work. I posted a much earlier version of this some time ago, but it's moved on a lot since then.

Anyhow, here's the original photo reference:
      clean.jpg

      And here's the final shot:
      render_one_B2.jpg

The full version is actually a 10-second animated shot - a slow pan across the room, but I'm not allowed to post that yet 😒 😉

The room interior is a SketchUp model, as is the tower block on the far right.

      The rest is Photoshop.

anyhow, hope there's something of interest for you here.

      cheers,

      Andy

    • RE: Desert Trading Post...Something is missing

Yep - shadow direction is wrong 😉 Also, in a desert environment, I'd expect the structures to have been coloured and stained by all the dust in the air - and generally look a bit more weathered. Try adjusting the colour to a more pinkish-orange hue, to integrate the buildings better into their environment.

      Hope this helps,

      Andy

    • RE: H · Ө · L · E

Nice work - great minds think alike eh? 😉 👍 Guessing you used Greeble for the surface detail??

Only thing that stands out for me is that the textures on the space ships have some obvious tiling.

      Nonetheless, great stuff 😎

    • RE: Digital Painting - latest work...

Hi Alex - really useful info - thankyou.
The 'muddiness' is something I am conscious of. I'll bite the bullet and try your approach on my next piece. Guess this approach really forces you to think about your colour choices too... Once again, thanks for taking the time 😉
