It'd be nice to see SU ouput too.

      Nice result

      Hi Rich,

SU output attached. The ground plane was assigned a 'shadow-catcher' material in Thea, and rendered using the sun as a lightsource and the background image for global illumination.

      Thanks Ken,

These were produced for a university who were conducting a study into guidance systems for un-manned space vehicles. The actual vehicle design here is imaginary, as the study report was focussed more on the software than the hardware. So I had pretty free-reign to do what I liked. Deadline was very tight - less than 24hrs for all models and renders, so I opted to keep it simple! πŸ˜„

    • RE: Sign for Peace in Palestine UPDATE!

I'm gonna ignore the post above this one for the sake of my sanity.

The reason for this post: Mike - if you have access to BBC iplayer there was a really fascinating interview on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme around 8am this morning. It discussed how the lessons learnt in the NI peace process could be applied to the Gaza situation. It was a surprisingly positive piece, and suggested that, although difficult, a solution wasn't impossible. A lot of it tied-in with what you've suggested - have a listen if you're able πŸ˜„

      cheers,

I guess your definition of an adequate reaction differs from mine.

And to describe the preceding posts as pharisaism is, I feel, to misunderstand the humanitarian compassion that motivated them.

      Mike,

I agree that the Northern Ireland model has a lot to offer.

My concern is that a large part of the reason why the NI agreement worked was that there were people on both sides prepared to take a pragmatic approach to the issues. And in so doing they demonstrated that pragmatism needn't mean a total abandonment of long-held beliefs and values.
That is what is needed here - pragmatism / realism instead of idealism / fundamentalism. Sadly, listening to interviews from both sides in this conflict this morning, I'm hearing no (influential) pragmatic voices yet...

Breaking news on the BBC website:

"At least 15 people have been killed and more than 200 injured when a UN-run school used as a shelter in Gaza was shelled, the Gaza health ministry says.

Hundreds of Palestinians were in the school in Beit Hanoun, fleeing heavy fighting in the area.

It is the fourth time that a UN facility has been hit in Israel's offensive against Hamas militants."

I'm a fan of the "clean" style, so thanks for noticing (and assuming it was intentional)!

Haha, no doubting it was intentional. Knowing how much detail to include so that a model looks fully detailed without feeling 'cluttered' requires a great eye as well as great technical skills. Please don't hesitate to share in the future - your work is right up there πŸ‘

      Ken,
As Mike has said, there is plenty of blame to be shared by both parties in this. Personally, I find the actions of both sides beyond contempt.
However, it is too easy to be diverted by debating the political rights and wrongs, whilst in the real world ordinary men women and children are suffering under the most appaling circumstances. This is what needs addressing now. My decision to sign the petition was wholly apolitical. For me, it is about doing what we can to stop the human suffering NOW. On that basis, discussing the rights and wrongs, in an effort to determine which side is worse, or less bad, feels uncomfortably like 'fiddling whilst Rome burns'.

There is some great work in there... Some of the more 'artistic' NPR stuff is especially nice. I'd recommend people take the time to scroll down this 'endless' page - there are some real gems hidden in there πŸ˜„

      Thanks Ken.

I used a number of point-lights in Thea, with varying colours, to light the ceiling. Using coloured lights to add different tones helps to take away from the clinical feel of the renders... I think.. πŸ˜„

SketchUp wire frame attached. Very little PS work in this one. Just added people and did a few small colour-balance adjustments. Everything else is straight from Thea4SU.

      Thank you πŸ˜„
Yes 365 is a big number. If she manages to get this funded though it should be amazing: seeing the progression of a whole year, the cycle of the seasons, through the paintings.
Unearthed: yes, as if painting in oils wasn't challenging enough, the issues of working outdoors add a whole new set of complications. Louise has found ways to deal with this, although on occassion she does return home with almost as much paint on her as on the canvas! πŸ˜„

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It means a lot.

Interesting idea. Not sure how it would fit in with her preference for working outdoors though πŸ˜‰ She is a very competent SketchUp user herself actually, having been a designer for a number of years, but to be honest I think she's enjoying being liberated from mouse & keyboard. If only oil-paints had an 'undo' function.
