    • Dovetails at their best

I have finally managed to get my web site up and running thanks to Modelhead.
      The site is called http://www.hand-cut-dovetails.com
I have a history of fund raising using my skills as a cabinet maker and you will see that if you visit my site. I would like to raise funds to two groups with the first part of this project, that being making the through and lapped dovetail using my methods, jigs, the lot.

      The two groups are:-
      1 This forum.
2 A youth group, details to follow.

I will spread the word on 'woodworking forums' and asked them to visit here. In that way they can ask both woodworking/sketchup questions in the one forum.

      cheers

      Alan.
PS I have had the nod from Coen to do this. πŸ˜‰

    • Savings images as jpg or tiff - best quality A4 size

      Hi chaps
      A bit of help please.
I want to save some of my models in jpg or tiff format. The maximum printed size will be A4. I want the image to be printed at the highest quality. I think this relates to 300dpi.

I am aware that to get a jpg or tiff I go to file>export>2d Graphic.

      A dialogue box appears.
      I add the file name.
I select jpg from the menu.
      I select options.

      another dialogue box appears.

      Question
What are the width pixel and height pixel settings that will give me a top quality image?

      thanks in anticipation.

      Morning Gidon
What materials is it going to be made from. Is the top compartment a drawer?

    • RE: Chest of drawers

      Hi Gaieus,
Once you start making stuff that is curved it takes a considerable amount of jigs and things and unless you are making quite of few of them would not be worth making if you were doing it for a living.

Chippingdale would i believe have have a group of variously skilled craftsmen working on a project like this. The cabinet maker, turner, veneerer, french polisher. And I've probably missed a few!

      Gaieus,
Lovely model. I also think the French had a similar style of chest of drawers. Very curvaceous.

If you check out my posting of the jewellery box I will be posting the construction of a drawer that will allow this type of shape to be made. Modern designs are made with this type of drawer constuction.

Its called the central drawer runner system, something that has been going for ??? not sure how long. Probably hundreds of years.

      Hi Gidon,

And I would happily join you. I have visited the forums you mentioned and they are very informative.

Being a 'sketchuper' if there is such a word, I like the idea that we can communicate using this medium. I think that it is an excellent product, enhanced and with this superb facility provided by Coen.

      Hi Gully
The chairs look nice and comfortable and the table would appear to extend. Did you make this yourself?

I'm tempted to ask Coen if the woodworkers on this site could maybe have a shed to play in, and maybe talk about methods of making etc.

Pass on a few tips etc.

      Any views on that?
