      Hi Nick,
I've had a bit more time this morning to work on this. This is the method that I have found that works. I am working on the computer for most of the morning. Any questions fire away, it just means my teach was not up to it.

a Work in x ray mode so you have a better idea of what you will
eventually be picking and removing from the model.

b if you intend to be pushing holes other than simple squares through anything, I found that I needed to scale up my dimentions x100. this is essential with if you have to 'intersect with model' type of commands.

And the improved version can be found here

      Nick
I think I have missed out one of the final steps. Once you have pushed the flat squares to the inner thickness, you then need to select each face,
1 The outer surface, delete that from the square
2 select the inner face, delete that. Because it is a component all the faces disappear.

If that does not work, I will do a better tutorial tomorrow morning.
      cheers
      Alan.
PS Still here for another 10 mins to see if that helps.

      Hi Rob,
Some of the top furniture makers in the UK use this type of facility for making their templates when doing curved work.

A guy called Brain Jordan writes for Furniture and Cabinet making mag and produces some beautiful stuff. Creates the necessary CAD file, emails the profile to the likes of a similar company in the UK, and gets perfect templates produces.

      welcome

Thanks for that. A beautiful clean lined and very functional design. The stool would certainly help with maintaining core body strenght and correct posture. I'm sitting up now!

      Hi guys,
I think there were a few people on the old forum who did a teach package on this. I think, one was Jean Lemire who is a member of this forum.

    • RE: Dovetails at their best

      Jerry,
If you would like to make one I would do a SU model. Not today because I am working hard on my house and awaiting my next lesson from Modelhead on web page building.

Now I know this may sound cheeky, but what I am doing is raising money for
      1 this forum
      2 a youth club.
If I do a sketchup model I would like a donation to this forum.
Now I am sure the answer will be yes.

I hope you can understand where I am coming from.
Just throw in a Β£1.00 or whatever you can afford.
There is a paypal facility in the Newbie forum.
      And thank you for asking.
We could make a few quid doing it this way.
      cheers,

    • RE: Dovetails at their best

      Thank you for that James,

As I said in a previous post I think we are extremely lucky to have had the teach from Bruce.
I've still a long way to go.

Sometimes what you get in magazines are snippets of information on a topic and to be honest sometimes, its of little use at all. Beautiful photography sometimes, sometimes not.

Well using sketchup and with the space available that won't happen unless I fail. But them someone can get back to me on this thead to clarify something, I will update the web site, and eventually over time, it will be be best resourse out there. Well that my goal.

In my former working life I had to complete a daily report to my seniors, and at the bottom I always wrote

'Aim****ing to deliver a quality of service second to none'

It put a few noses out of place, but it set mygoal.

So 7 years down the line, its back up there.

      cheers
