    • RE: Rendering Software in Cadalyst Magazine Review

There is also a listing on the SketchUp downloads page: http://www.sketchup.com/?sid=37

This was finally updated last week. I sent them updated information on RPS products in February, but the new page was delayed - apparently because they wanted to study some legal problems.

I sent them updates on RPS products again last week, and they are supposed to update the page. As soon as they do, I plan to start a new thread (with a more appropriate title then this one) to let other people know about the plugins page. (We have renamed and consolidated some products, so the new listings will help send people in the right direction.)

Currently, there is no way to find this page unless you happe to stumble across the old SketchUp home page: http://www.sketchup.com/, but I believe they are working to get a link to it from the Google SketchUp home page.

      Thanks Kristoff and JuJu.

I wish that SketchUp itself were getting more press. My personal opinion is that Google is not doing much to promote SketchUp as a 3D Design engine (outside of the Google Earth and mapping community).

The July issue of Cadalyst magazine did a review of rendering software and included IRender for SketchUp.

    • RpTools - mirroring

      @unknownuser said:

      a midpoint selection...

when I need to mirror a object or a selection, I don't readily know the "Gap" between it and it's new opposite mirror, so the ability to select a midpoint somehwere in space and then have it mirror using it as a center.

I will give the idea of mirroring around a point some thought.

I have avoided having mouse/cursor input be a part of the RpTools wizards (except for "aim").

Even with axis colors, we feel that users are very often going to select the wrong axis and the wrong direction the first time. That is why mirror leaves the original item selected and automatically does an undo on the mirror if you click another mirror button. (With move and rotate, you can click the opposite arrow to undo the original move or rotation).

Maybe I will get some feedback from other users. It would be easy enough to put a "morror around point" checkbox on the wizard.

In the meantime, you could mirror with a gap of 0, and then move the item. (Although that would be easier if the mirrored item was selected.)

A new version has been posted which fixes the gap problem, and lets users authorize it properly.

Oops - that may be a bug - Gap should mean the whole distance between the original geometry and the new geometry. I will check it out.

(later) Yes, you are right. When I entered a gap of 6', it left 12' between the old objects and the new objects. I will fix it and include it in the next release (today or tomorrow).

What do you mean by a "midpoint selection ability"?

      al...

in using the script last night, I feel that "Gap" is a bad description in Mirror... I had to keep telling myself, he means half the distance of my mirror, to me Gap means the whole distance between selection... I would also like a midpoint selection ability.

      otherwise... looking good... no complaints.

The "free trial" is only good for 30 days. After you purchase the product you may use it indefinitely.

I did a test and it might be a limitation of SketchUp that rotations below 0.05 degrees might not work.

I tested it in Ruby and 0.06 seemed to be a limit.

The I used the SketchUp rotate tool and typed a rotation of 0.05 into the VCB and it did not seem to take.

      Al,

I'm just rotating this stitch components into place using your new tool.
It is fun to use, but is 0.06 degrees the smallest setting? It might not be enough for a fussy person.

      Have a nice day,

      1. If you enter mm (or several other units) into the text box it will convert them properly.

enter 12mm, click up arrow and down arrow (so that it reads and redisplay the current setting) and it displays 0.47244"

If you change you units under Windows/Preferences to mm or cm, then the wizard will increment and display in those units.

      Thanks Kristoff.

When I first mentioned one of our products, RPS 3D PDF,on the Google Groups forum the post was removed by a moderator. (It was not an advertisement - but rather a request for Beta Testers. Although, clearly my hope was that some SketchUp users would finds it useful and want to purchase it.)

At about the same time some SketchUp users started posting comments, questions, etc. about the same product on the SU Pro forum and I received a Private message from a moderator asking that I not use the SU Pro Forum for customer support for Render Plus products. At that time we set up a separate forum for Render Plus.

However, I suspect that SketchUp users trying out the Render Plus products would prefer to post questions and get responses on the forum they already use.

SketchUp users are invited to use the Render Plus Forums, but if they want to post questions here, I will plan to respond here unless I am advised otherwise.

I'll take a look at the minimum angle.

I copied this thread to the RPS forum, because I am not sure if SketchUcation would like doing customer support for SketchUp add-on products on the SketchUcation forums. (I was warned not to use the SketchUp Pro forums for customer support of add-on's)

    • RE: Ruby CDoc_loader

I don't have the new version of SketchUp. But it is apparently not compatible with the old CDoc application.

Remove the CDoc_loader.rb from your plugins folder.

The functions of CDoc are now in RpTools.
