Even with these helps I'm still having a very hard time identifying the newest SketchyPhysics download. Is it SetupSketchyPhysics3x-Apr2.exe @ this page?

Dying for SketchyPhysics IV. Seeing small SketchyPhysics solids fall through the floor in the version I have installed now 😞

    • RE: Script to change default sides of a circle?

      Argh. How cute.

So now I'm thinking of using some debugging tools, finding the responsible byte(s) and) patching SketchUp.

That would be an inflexible solution.

Circle, Arc, and Polygon segment number defaults would best be a user-configurable setting (and not just per session - I mean a permanent setting or option), and/or API-accessible.

Next question: has that (option) been put on the API wish list I saw over yon? I know, I could read the whole wish list.. πŸ˜’

At least this script here just saved me time reducing polys from extruded circles.. thanks!

    • Script to change default sides of a circle?

I've posted a question here - but I think I'll post it more broadly here as a newbie question:

Scripting the creation of an 8-sided circle doesn't seem to be a way to change the default number of segments in a circle: it still remains the default 24 for any user-created circles.

How could I automatically change the default number of segments in a circle and/or arc? By "automatically", I mean that this happens when SketchUp loads: a script (I'd think) changes the default circle segments to 8 (or any other number I'd like to script).

Or has somebody already scripted a solution to this, and if so, what is the solution?

      Thanks!

    • RE: [Plugin]ArcCurve-set_segments.rb & changearcsegments 130830

I've tried making a script that automatically creates an 8-sided circle in a group at sketchup start, to see if all circles created by a user would then be 8-sided as well. They aren't - scripting an 8-sided circle still leaves the default sides at 24. 😞

I tried changing the sides of a circle with this script as well - Sketchup still leaves the default at 24.

How can I change the default sides of a circle? ❓

I believe you mean "axle", not "axe"? πŸ˜‰

Right now it looks only at the front side. I could do another run that looked at the back side, if that would help?

(Extremely late in reply - sorry)

Yeah, that would help - and then two options or modes depending on the result. 1) If the material on the back side is the same as the front, group it with everything else that has that material. or, 2) If the material on the back side is different, group it separately (in a group with all faces that have this back/front combination). That would be great.

That's not something I can control. It's how SketchUp works. All tools that use the VCB acts like that.

      Ok. Thanks.

Responding to the previous - CloseOpens is, uh, I dunno either.. do you mean Close Edge Gaps? The video gives at least good guidance on figuring it out.

Which version is newer: V6 at the first post here, or V2 found at the plugins index of the site linked from the last post here? -

      These are really useful, thanks!

It wasn't so obvious how to enter a distance threshold (or that you needed to) in the "Value Control Box" (measurements toolbar) for the "close edge gaps" tool. After you select the tool it seems you can't select the measurement toolbar; apparently you're just supposed to type. If the toolbar can be selected that will be a bit more intuitive.

However I'm not figuring out how to use the "make vertices colinear" at all; where is that demonstrated (or where could it be)?

      This is useful, thanks. πŸ‘

One limitation: it seems as if this will only select faces with a material if both sides of the face contain the material. For inconsistently textured scenes that would mean the material is overlooked.. Maybe it could have two modes: one where it will select only faces with the material on both sides, and another that selects faces if the material is on either side?

      sketch3d.de:

[notwithstanding how long ago these posts were..] I was really hoping your program would solve this great annoyance in SketchUp 7 running on Windows 7; here's what happens:

When I click "Save", the dialog just disappears and reappears. Then when I go to "Restore", it brings up a file dialog prompting for a .reg file.. but no reg file was ever saved (or I don't know where), nor was I prompted to save one. 😞

As for the script that started this thread, though it's necessarily complicated (why hasn't google addressed this annoyance??), it's a lifesaver, so THANX Jim!
