I've seen some of you latest release videos and I'm getting more and more convinced, that I will purchase a license... πŸ˜„
Can make web-based walkthroughs similar to Pano2vr with LightUp...?

Thanks very much. It was rather a lot of work. πŸ˜„

re: Panoramas. Mais, bien sur! One-click instant export of panoramas shown in this video

Or you can go the whole hog and embed realtime 3D in a webpage using a couple of lines of HTML

• SketchUp models on iPad

[NB No audio on this video and the filming is pretty low rez - though its running at solid 30Hz on a retina display]

Now available in the AppStore, the LightUp Player app allows you to explore your SketchUp model that have been lit with LightUp and use all your Scenes you've setup.

Naturally, scene animation, edge stroking, realtime navigation along with realtime bloom, depth of field, and tone-mapping are supported.

Looks great! πŸ‘

You might also want to consider exporting directly to LightUp standalone Player, WebPlayer or iPad Player. They support SketchUp Scenes, geo-located realtime shadows.. in fact all the features you can setup using LightUp.

And its just a single button press to export to a .luca file without leaving SketchUp.

Hello Adam

For me LighUp Player works fine in "internal" (.luca files ) and also with FireFox 😎 as plugin but what about Chrome ?
Possible or not possible? There is not on the list but in the logos!

<!-- ia3 -->achrome.jpg<!-- ia3 -->[/attachment:2y8mtaew]

Edit : Ok I have found the Chrome LightUp Plugin πŸ˜„
Plugin Installed, relauch Chrome, refresh etc..
But...nothing change! Screen of download progress text % of the luca file don't appear like than the FireFox! (I am on Vista)

I will investigate more!
<!-- ia2 -->aaup.jpg<!-- ia2 -->[/attachment:2y8mtaew]

Use Chrome menu Tools->Extensions will show you what you have installed for your Chrome browser.
The latest LightUp WebPlayer for Chrome is 3.1.2
<!-- ia1 -->chrome.png<!-- ia1 -->[/attachment:2y8mtaew]

Then you can either visit a website that uses an embedded luca or simply drop a luca file on your browser and move around in realtime with all the nice reflections:

Kinda... But not really. HalfLife and CryEngine need their respective programs to both serve and view the scenes. Meaning that a large program must be installed on both the server and user machines. gigabytes will need to be transferred between the two for a new user who happens across a website... LightUp and Revizto alternatively, base themselves in small web apps and transfer a relatively small file from the server to the user and no more data is needed. No backend system is needed to continue running on the webserver. Half-Life and CryEngine require a server and constant communication between the user and server.

Sorry, you're mistaken about how games engines work.
When you play "online" all the graphics are rendered locally by your computer. The "online" bit is simply sharing your position/status with a server for others to see / lobby services.

I was simply correcting a factual error that may mislead people about web browser realtime graphics - but I understand this a thread about Revitzo, so I'll leave it there.

Yeah I don't think it's as good as Half Life was or Half Life II. But the difference being that those engines took a lot to render and did so mainly on your own system and not live on a website server with no backend.

Just for the record: Its nothing to do with backends. They're all rendered on your system with your graphics card whether its in a browser or a standalone App - so Revitzo may have chosen to drop features from their standalone product but its perfectly possible to have the same rendering in SketchUp, and in web browsers and iPads as LightUp does. ie All the realtime reflections, the Scenes etc.

See examples here: https://www.light-up.co.uk/index.php?t=webplay

Just sayin' πŸ’š

By bake you mean, that the lightning and colour information is saved inside the model itself? No need for lightup to be turned on?

SketchUp doesn't 'know' anything about light sources, so it requires LightUp to draw the results. However, LightUp is integrated into SketchUp - its not exporting to a separate App + Window, it replaces the rendering SU normally performs.

See this video about 1 min in showing switching from SU to LU rendering:

Looking awesome Adam, I am looking out for something that will do interior animations faster and better (lighting) than what is currently available. I have not had much experience with Lightup (I did play with the very first version) I wonder if animation like proper animation or keyframe is supported?

Thanks, Its come a long way since you first tried it!
We've got over 75,000 registered users now - including companies like Pixar. 😍

The short answer is "yes", you can use animation plugins while running TourTool (LightUp realtime rendering).

If you're just looking to have doors / cupboards auto-open then using SU's own Dynamic Components is a simple and support workflow. Here's a quick screencast:

If you're looking for more complex paths, then with some extra rigging it works in LightUp.

• RE: Edge intersection

@sandbox_4 said:

Hello, I need to know if an edge is intersected by any entity (group, face,component)
for example in this case:

----------------[face]--------------------- there is a face in the middle of the edge
i need a function like
edge.is_intersected? true

-------------------------------------------- in this case theres nothing in the edge so
edge.is_intersected? false

But i dont need a function like (edge.is_intersected_with? face), I just want to know if an edge is intersected by anything. I tried with all_connected, faces, but it doesnt work

Thank You

Do really mean an Edge? As in you don't just want to test whether a ray (an imaginary line in space) intersects an entity, you really want an Geometric Edge (and all the semantics that go with it)?

• RE: How to check showRubyPanel is ready to accept puts

@onidarbe said:

Well, I'm already sure it load it first πŸ˜‰

The problem here, is that I can't seem to open the Ruby Console before continuing to load any other plugin. Using any timer will only delay opening the Ruby Console as well. When you have a lot of plugins to load, eventually the puts from loading the last plugins will be displayed in the Ruby Console. It's like the Ruby Console is only opening, taking time in between loading other plugins.

So I'm now trying to move all plugins to "plugins/delayed/", all but one that opens the Ruby Console and waits for 2 seconds to load the others with using:
`

UI.start_timer(3, true) {
>   require_all(Sketchup.find_support_file("Plugins") + "/delayed")
> }

`

The thing I need now is not a timer, but a check it the Ruby Console is fully loaded and ready. So, how can one know if the Ruby Console is open?

Whenever you rub against stuff like this, you need to ask yourself whether what you're trying to do is a good idea.
I'd have a think about whether you can't solve this another way; there is no way of knowing that your request has been realized - ie the console is open. (Short of nasty hacks looking through a window hierarchy).

No, true values (as opposed to references) - IDs etc - are fine to cache.

So method selectors can happily be cached once at startup. Just as Thomthom says, avoiding the additional function calls is a "Good Thing (tm)". πŸ˜„

• RE: Memory management in C++ Extension

No, thats not quite right.

You've made those variables static (FWIW, for no benefit) - but because their scope is limited to that function, nothing outside can access them so you should be fine with that.

The golden rule is never hang onto any VALUE reference beyond the scope of your functions.

When you get more experienced with Ruby extensions, you may want to look into using rb_gc_register_address() but I would strongly suggest you stick to never holding VALUE references unless you really understand whats going on under the hood.
