SketchUp 2018
-
Make users do not have any reason to complain anything concerning the use of a software donated to them for FREE with (unfortunately) nearly the same core feature set of the commercial Pro version!
As already elaborated above, SU initally was made by @Last primarily for and dedicated to architects, nothing else.
Comparing SU with Blender shows not being aware of the differences in 3D modeling for construction purposes compared with a modeler for modeling this fancy stuff in the area of Digital Content Creation... sure, both are 3D modelers... and the learning curve of SU is still lightyears flatter than Blender.
Comparing the effort to enhance the rectangle tool with a full blown U-V mapping in your other concerning post, c'mon, your surely kiddin'

What the heck link did you guys click on to update to the 2018 version?

So do you think that writing some decent mapping tools instead of the useless rectangle was impossible.
Meanwhile there are tons of plugs free or very inexpensive (Trupaint, SketchUV,Wraper..) which sorted the problem.. Same goes for other ESSENTIALS modeling features sorted by plugins (SubD, Artisan, Vertex Tools, Curviloft, Flowify, Profile Builder, Skatter..).
But we still have to read the same story "too difficult blablabla" "full-blown blablabla" over and over again.
Then, you're right.. I'm kidding. -

I did neither said nor meant this but have referenced to comparing the effort for developing a small improvement of an exiting tool with a complete new functionality by 'derei':

Another questionable improvement would be rectangle draw... which whilst "it may" have its usefulness, the impact of having a fancy modifier when drawing a rectangle is rather small, compared with a better uv-mapping, to say so.

because they are free/inexpensive they do not have required a lot of effort to develop?
sure, ESSENTIALS for you but surely not for the standard non-power user... which are btw often commercial users in comparison to forum regulars demanding to develop a Revit/Rhino/Blender clone, for free of course...
But we still have to read the same story "easy peasy development" "why no multi-threading" "long overdue" "I will leave the ship" over and over again.

Will not accept my license code. How do I get the new one? My maintenance fee was paid in June.

Of course they had.
Given this i can't figure why Trimble don't buy at least some of them. I suspect it would be more time/cost effective and would allow a better integration and better performances (being able to access to the core instead of rely on the API).
3dsmax sort of follows this concept, they buy the best plugins and integrate them over the years..
I don't mean that sketchup should have al the feature max has (i love Sketchup and I'm not a fan of Autodesk actually), but.. you know, we are in 2017 (well actually trimble is in 2018) and "Freecad" has a native loft function. Sketchup doesn't, but it does have the rotated rectangle. -

depends where you have bought, i.e. directly from Trimbel or from a local reseller, in the first case Trimble will email you the new license data soon if not already done, in the latter the local reseller... which may need some hours resp. until tomorrow... they do have a lot of work today
-
You could also click on the renew option, enter your serial and a new one for SU2018 will be generated.

I received my new serial direct from my reseller this afternoon. I suspect you will get the same email at some point over the next 24hrs.

what makes you think they SU aren't open to this?
how many plugin authors do you know who have approached SU with an offer to sell their IP?
as far as I'm aware, 3D text was a plugin that was purchased and incorporated...
Rotated Rectangle was a plugin which is now incorporated...
STL was a plugin which is now incorporated...
the new API also has a major change for working with textures...
https://forums.sketchup.com/t/sketchup-pro-2018/55225?u=john_drivenupthewall
your UV editing may not be too far off [even if it's a bit niche]...
in my opinion, the demise of Make shows SU's commitment to it's paying customers...
the development of Free shows SU's commitment to it's non-paying customers...
An API for Free is on the agenda, so there will be possibilities for extension developers...

Anti-aliasing works on Mac again!
And the improved tape measure is purely AWESOME!
Cheers.

Sorry, I should have been clearer, on the SketchUp website.
https://www.sketchup.com/license/renew
Insert your licence, the system will check their database and report on your maintenance status together with a new serial for SUpro2018 if maintenance is current (which it should be from your feedback on when you bought / renewed / upgraded earlier in the year).

My 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator doesn't work with 2018. Seems like this happened with 2017, too. I currently can't connect to 3DConnexion.com to check for updated drivers.

Thanks juju........
Jos so others know, getting the new serial number is not enough (which is all that shows on the web site when you renew). Click on the Send Email link so you will also get the new authorization key.

Hi Dave!
Gotta admit, this is freaking me out! No new versions of SketchUp Make??!!
Say it can't be true!
I opted for a 2017 Macbook Pro by the way! For anyone reading this, I'm still a Windows gal but I had to invest in a Mac for my business!

David,
I updated my 3DXware to latest and it did not make my SpaceNaivagtor kick on in SU 2018. (& yes this happened w/SU 2017 as well....a later update from 3DX ware did support 2017)So: I copied over the Folder: 3DxSketchUp & 3DxSketchUp.rb from my 2017 SU Plugins folder.
File path for 2017: C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp\Plugins
**SU 2018 did not have a Plugin folder in the following location so you will have to create one.
File path for 2018: C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp\Plugins
C
Charlie,
That worked for me. Thanks!
