Hello all, first post, although I've lurked for ages! (been Sketchin' since 6).
I must just say this site has been my go-to for all Sketchup questions!

Anyhow, a few days ago Sketchup 8 started playing up... it freezes ("not responding") after the window opens, just before the plugin menus used to load.
I moved the entire Plugins folder elsewhere, and Sketchup starts fine. Then I moved only "!SketchUcation_loader.rb" and the "SketchUcation" folder back in... and it froze. Experimenting, I moved all my plugins back in, and confirmed that removing only "SCF_loader.rb" from the SketchUcation folder would not freeze Sketchup, and would allow my other plugins to load... albeit not nicely arranged like before.

Is this likely to be a problem with the SCF file? or something it relies on? I did try googling it, but didn't have any luck. I then downloaded the latest SketchUcation plugin, but Sketchup still freezes (The new SCF, and my oldish one are bit-identical, so that's not really a surprise).

(Win7 64bit 16gb ram Asus G74S. Tried both Repairing, and Reinstalling too.)

Perhaps someone has experienced something similar, or could point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this?

      Many thanks, DS

      Many Thanks

What do you mean by "freeze" ? A long delay or a total freeze?

I experience several seconds of delay at the startup of SketchUp. Removing the Sketchucation loader removes the delay. If my network is very busy, the delay could get quite long. So for now, I always have the loader disabled unless I want to update / download a plugin and afterwards, the loader is immediately disabled again (change the extension of the loader from .rb to .rb! ).

          Hi Kaas.
I left it once for 3/4 of an hour just to see if it would complete... no luck.

Thanks for your link... I will look into it further as it exactly describes the start of the problem.

          Many Thanks

A few users have experienced issues with SketchUcationTools v2.6.0...
Its SCFapi pings small discreet data packets to and from the Server.
In v8 it can't access the required Ruby2.0 functions to do this, so it uses temporary VBS files.
But if your system is setup to not run or even block those, or your firewall is overly strict etc, then you do get this kind of issue...

I'll PM you a temporary work around that disables the SCFapi while leaving the other toolset intact...

The good news is that v2.6.1 is in beta and that avoids using these VBS pingers all together etc, so very soon this issue should gone... πŸ€“

Tig , I am writing this for a friend .. He recently bought a new computer .. it has window 7 on it .. they downloaded SU8 free. loaded under administrator.. .. it runs once ok .. but next time totally freezes as the base outline frame appears.

Has tried uninstall and reinstall but it still does the same thing ..
Any ideas as the cause .. He has all updated video drivers .. but to no avail .

              Thanks

I will be watching for this. My system also has several seconds of delay when I start it up. I have also been seeming some slight delays at other times lately.

Any idea when the new version might be released?

We do internal testing first, then Premium members test before we go public.

No set date as yet as there are features coming that involve lots of background work.

Tig, thank you for the workaround in your PM... it worked fine!
(I had already poked around in that file with N++, but couldn't see anything obvious. πŸ˜„ )

Just FYI, this is a work laptop and we have a pretty unusual "website whitelist" security setup that I guess must be blocking the pings. (I can't PM yet or I might send you slightly more info, except it would probably be irrelevant for the next version anyway.)

P.s. If you want me to test something relating to this just let me know.

                    Many Thanks
