Photobucket Issues

Yeah. I don't have any problems with images from them loading. I don't know why they take your computer so long. But, because they do for you, I've mostly quit using Flickr to host images I post here.

Can you gentlemen post a few links to threads you have problems with to check. I've been feeling like it was large uploads to the forum that were the problem rather than photobucket et al....
Mind you, I stopped looking at dukejazz's 3D printing thread a while back because it never loads, and that seems to be something to do with the forum software struggling with the external links.

^ This description is what appears to happening.
The reason my browsers are crashing is because of the length of time to load.
The latest is "The Art of SketchUp - part 1: Fantasy" thread.
I can't remember the others, but there's only been one or two. I would rather not try to find them unless absolutely necessary as they do crash my browser.

The problem is definitely with Photobucket. Here is an image link from the "The Art of SketchUp - part 1: Fantasy" topic:
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt12/ken28875/Simcity%205/R_gen_W2D2_townhouse_08_01_DetailedConcept_zpscdc8cecf.jpg~original
It is supposed to point to a .jpg image. Instead it serves a whole .html page. On the 7th page of the "The Art of SketchUp - part 1: Fantasy" topic there are about 36 such links to Photobucket. No wonder that on a slow internet connection it takes ages to download the page and the browser times out (crushes).
I'll take a closer look to the problem tomorrow to find out if a solution could be found on our side. Until a solution comes up, I recommend not to use Photobucket links on the forums.
I also PM ken28875 who linked his amazing work this way into the "The Art of SketchUp - part 1: Fantasy" to ask him if he could change the images to sketchucation hosted ones or not.

Gabor, I don't think it is a photobucket specific issue. It's been a fairly recent phenomenon and does relate to image intensive threads but is not specific to image upload sites.
Have a look at this thread, it was the first I noticed it on and it's mostly links to articles rather than image servers.

It's a mixture of video and images for that page.
That's a pretty insane amount of embeds.

True, but they shouldn't take ages just to load the page. Somehow it seems the forum software is actually loading the whole file rather than a simple place holder.
I'm part of a couple of other image and video heavy forums (could be tattooed custom biker sites or organic basket weaving, you decide) and a similarly loaded page doesn't strain my resources. -

http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=51084Thank you Box for the link. This page you linked, contains about 5,147 KB data compared to the page where this post is written contains about 818 KB. The other page also initiates 122 http requests to several servers. If any of those servers are overloaded that delays the rendering of the whole page.
Let's make a quick calculation: Let's say we're on an average internet connection with an average download speed of 250 KB/sec. Only for the data content of that page to be downloaded takes 20 seconds at such an average connection. And we haven't yet spoken about the delays what are caused by the http requests and about the slower servers.
Of course there are possible solutions to improve the situation. I'll try to find the most effective one. But IMO the pbhpBB software is not designed to link hundred images per topic page...
One possible solution could be to reduce the number of posts per page in topics wehere the number of image links grow above a limit... Opinion about this?
Now I see your other post and yes, an other possible solution could be to display place-holder images in case of outer links....

My comments and links are only meant as information and should in no way be read as criticism.

Just a short addition:
Testing with the webpagetest.org pagespeed test, the quoted 3D printing topic page downloads in 13.264s. The art of Sketchup topic sometimes times out because of the Photobucket server unable to serve so much images paralelly. Other times it downloads in about 30s. But definitely the cause of the timeout is the Photobucket server.

Of course and thank you very much for the information.

Bryan: Sorry that you could not see my images.
Gabor: I got your private message. I have been using Photobucket to post images on Sketchucation for years now and did not have the problem of slow loading. It seems like this issue is happening a few times lately the past few weeks though.
Have you tried the other thread, The Art of SketchUp - part 2: Sci-Fi" topic?
http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=27030&start=180It is very similar to "The Art of SketchUp - part 1: Fantasy" topic with lots of pages and images, but the images seem to load quite faster.
I am not a tech guy, so I don't know much about web hosting sites. I mainly use Photobucket. Does anyone have other suggestions?
Gabor mentioned to me about attaching the images. What is the maximum image size?
Thanks!

Thank you very much Ken for your reply. Yes, I think Photobucket had some issues lately and it won't appear every time. (Might be that some of their servers are overloaded temporary.)
The maximum attachment size for the the forums at the moment is 2MB. I think it should be large enough for most of the images.
