It's good that it's arrived but i see nothing for me in the list of improvements. I'm hoping this thread will provide some information on performance improvements. Otherwise meh i don't use layout and the sketchucation plugin is fine for handling ruby scripts.

Sounds like "Zoom In More" is the thing for me... cannot remember how often I have been frustrated with the broken zoom. But if trimble will now release a new version yearly (as paid upgrade), maybe I'll wait the next one that actually offers more than some bug fixes. Sure, LayOut did get a proper update (or so it sounds), but I never use it... and with sketchucation plugin store, I hardly find Extension Warehouse interesting.

Darn... sounds like one is actually forced on $95* per year "upgrade, maintenance, and support program". If I understand right one cannot get SU with a upgrade price, if it happens to fall out of the program. http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000020

...To continually get the annual SketchUp Pro upgrades, maintenance, and support, year after year, you will need to renew the program again for $95* per year. Don't worry, we'll let you know when you're nearing the end of your program so that you have time to renew if you choose to do so.
So one just have to trust that SU will eventually get better (sorry I don't see a track record on this) or perhaps jump on a alternative program.

I am downloading and installing Sketchup Make. Not good so far, because the application is still 32 bit!
It still installs in Program Files (x86). Please notice that windows 8 is 64 bits only.
Really? Only 32 bits? With new pcs that are 64 bits? Lame.
Installation is glitchless.
I am liking the new interface for toolbars, though.
Vray 1.6 beta automatically finds the new version though. I was expecting some issues here but everything is working ok.
Also, the render starts with no problems.
Just incurred in my first crash, while setting a camera..
So far, so good: render works ok. My only quip is the lack of a 64 bit version. The program is called 2013 now... make up to that name!!!

It appears to me that Trimble need a new marketing department. This is pretty much the first release of Trimble Sketchup. There have been trimble touchups to google sketchup but this is the first new "Drumroll" Trimble Sketchup "crowd goes wild" and they have released it without a WOW factor. It may be great under the hood, huge improvements in stability, speed etc and layout may had a good tune up but .............. where's the WOW
There's no hook, nothing that grabs you and says, Fantastic, I must have it. Nothing saying, I knew it was a good thing Trimble took this over from Google, see what they have done. No head in a bag, no surprise, nothing that makes me think, Ah now I see why they are making it more commercial and sortof pushing the free users to the side.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about anything, just pointing out that they missed an opportunity they may never have again. You rarely get the chance to blow your own trumpet these days, so when you do it should be a loud clear fanfare with lots of bells and whistles, not just a more precise rendition of the same tune.
I'm sure it will prove to be a better product, and will grow in the weeks and months ahead, but they should have had something Bright, Shiny and Obvious so everyone would remember when it was that Trimble really stamped it's name on it.

You can keep your version 6 if you want.
Cool for the V6 and V7
But about the V8 ?
-
Pilou, I have 6,7,8 and 2013 all running separately on the same PC.

Layout Trays still have a hard time staying put... they float often. Scrapbook still cannot be sized up past a certain point without the image whiting out. Love the new zoom in... Hatch is finally here!
P.s. has anyone made icons for the tools in Layout. I hate having the red X's on my custom toolbars.

Sketchup 2013 is faster, at least with Artisan, which I often use. It's like twice(even more) faster .
Also the video mp4 output is great, small size and good quality .Combined with the new toolbar customization and docking I think it is good enough for an update !
Believe it or not, the old version had so many bugs, that in this version were fixed; most of the time they involved in bug fixing the old version which came with it's own problems then it came the new additions with their own bugs!
If you wanted something fancy and WOW ing, we could have waited for about two years !! I for one, can't wait that longer. The slight improvements are good for now, and I hope for more in the future !

Don't forget to right click on a toolbar to launch something a little bit nifty.
Also right click down on the bottom left corner where you login to what's changeable.

v8.2013
Anybody knows how many people they have in dev team? -
Guess, Im too excited, downloaded new Sketchup 2013, installed vray 1.6 beta (which was released just a few days ago to see if it will better perform here. So far running well, but whether it will help vray to go faster or not, I still have to see after few more tests. I hope theres no crashing on the use of vray proxy.

My impression is that SU2013 have been released earlier then expected, because the new feature of "extension warehouse" have had to start competing with SCF "Plugin store" as soon as possible.
From the developer point of view, new SDK looks promising, but we will have to wait till it is usable within SketchUp itself.

Yes indeed.
Makes Hatchfaces obselete perhaps...
I do like the speed and ease of use of the new LO-Hatches, but do not like the quality of linework when scaling hatches up, because it is still only raster-image.
(Line thickness responds to scaling)Raster-image does put a restriction on what can be further achieved with this new tool.
Still pretty cool though.. Not wanna sound to negative

Not for me, I like using Hatchfaces for direct image output form SU in the initial stages of a project.

Anyone having trouble buying the upgrade?
I keep getting a message that I have entered incorrect licence info.
I entered the licence info by copying and pasting from the licence info that was emailed to me by Google when I upgraded to V8.
