      1.49.01 is the most current version. I didn't download the model, but what are you using for a light source in the lamp. Seems to me that you need a planar light, set to visible and set to a yellowish color to achieve that effect.

          your material is working OK. I would suggest putting an omni light in your scene. (instead of relying on the emmissive material.)

            Do not use emissive materials for lighting. V-Ray does not use emissive materials like other engines. The emitter material is only an effect to give a material the look of being lit, like a TV screen. You should stick to omni or planar lights for this lamp effect.

                First issue is the scale, the whole room is around 1.5ft high and wide.

                Secondly use an Omni.

                  And as for the diffused glow - that's Photoshop. It currently cannot be done in VRay 1.49.01

                      Oh crap, I never saved it, I can recreate it tomorrow if you want (busy rendering at moment)

                      Or you could just upsize scene x10, remove the light emissive material and replace with an Omni, set to watts and up the power as needed.
