Check the Artisan update

Cool indeed

Bumping, this is impressive!
Now if only an grid like this could be generated from contours. this might be a fantastic way to work site terrain.
-
I could vote for that, if it would not be too difficult.
Edit. By the way, these updates are excellent. -

Isn't there a plugin that generates quad-shapes topology from arbitrary terrain mesh?
I can't remember the name right now though... -
Hmmm, think there is... could work in the right hands.

I can't remember the name right now though...If you find it, I want it ! There's some plugins to recreate a mesh on a terrain, but the ones I know are not really straightforward and do not work with quads...a real retopology tool with quads in SU would be really awesome !!
Edit : And existing plugins are quite slow for processing terrains and create new geometry.

New feature for QuadFace Tools maybe? I'll write it down for investigation.

I'll follow that with hight interest !! Could be definitly a real plus for landscaping, but I think for many other activities !
If I can help you in any way in this, I'm here !!

I've been trying with QFT, but it eludes me. Sometimes I end up with a mess of overlapping faces...
been dreaming along these lines:=http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=44282&p=414933&hilit=+contours#p401481

I've tried doing it manually --pull a grid up to the contours with the sculpt tool. Doesn't work too well.

So do I....

Could someone tell me how does dale deform the "quads" without getting visible triangulation? if i subdivide manually with lines it gets triangulated and if i subdivide it with artisan subdivide it gives me triangles too but i see on this video a different behavior, am i missing something? is he using another plugin? i hope someone can help me! cheers!
Amazing update btw, i was daydreaming about the jitter function for randomizing the surface and suddenly i got it and i´m extra happy.

If you start with a "from scratch" mesh from the sandbox tools then you'll have no visible triangles because the diagonals are hidden. It's the same principle that Thom used here I believe.

i see, thanks massimo (y)
