This interesting little structure caught my eye the other day: http://www.contemporist.com/2012/06/25/shelter-bygg-by-gabriela-gomes/us_250612_06/

      http://www.contemporist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/us_250612_06-940x626.jpg

I know I could probably get away with modelling the the shell in between the ribs, with straight lines, but if I wanted to incorporate a curve, what would be the best way?

      Cheers.

Sorry, I'm useless with anything that's not boxy.

There are several ways to do it but I say, curviloft is the easiest i could think of. You may want to start with the ribs. Draw them up with good number of sides, no less than 30 sides per curve to make it smooth. select them and make the surface. Now extrude the ribs, add the details. This tool is so nice I've done lots with it!

Yes, I'd try Curviloft also. However I can see how it might be easier to use artisan - creating the proxy with native SU tools.

Seems you can make this with only no?
There are only simple circular or ellipsoïd curves not moebius curves !
All surface are tensile straight planes between 2 arcs!

Who are you and what have you done with Pilou! The Pilou we know and love would have been the first to suggest a plugin. 😄 🤣

You could create the shape with native tools. You just have to approach it differently than you would with the various plugins suggested.

I have made some therapies against use of plugins! 💚

I don't see any Bulge, it's only inclined segments between arcs 😉
Scale tool is the key! 😉

Not with the barrel bulge i.e. the curve from front to back........unless I'm missing something? I could be over thinking things as usual 😉

To me it looks like two intersecting eggs with ribs running through them, so there is curvature inbetween each rib.

Using native tools you could create the two 'egg' shapes, add the thickness of the ribs with the shell plugin and then intersect a series of rectangular boxes to create the ribs.

                        I don't believe that!
It's just tensile structure between each rib 😄
And yes after all structures draw an egg curve ☀

                            We're making progress!

Now, as Rich says, lets clear that V6 off your old computer and get you up to V8.

Maybe you need a virus on your old computer. This one ought to do the trick. 🤣

Weren't there some legacy capabilities in v6 and v7 that you don't have in v8? Free or Pro?

Despite the fact that I want not install the V8 free on my old comput and no need
V6 free has some advantages with files formats that V8 free has not more! 😉

                                  You're right, Tim.

                                  Pilou, you should have both.

I wasn't trying to stir up any trouble, nor give Pilou any excuses.
Now, as for the shelter structure. I would most definitely try it with native tools first. What I see is progressive extrusion, scaling and either, pushpull or followme ribs by copied loops. Otherwise, Curviloft for the volumes, intersect them and so on. Those fundamentals die hard with me.
After all, I am only a little bit swifter than a brick.
