How 'bout them working menu items!?!?
Yes.. and I am quite sure the Mac users (and Developers,) will be happy that you attended to the Entities.add_group() slowdown issue.
Thanx for jumpin' on that John !!
Wait, I haven't followed this very closely. Are you saying that I can add 15,000 groups without massive slowdown now?

Adding geometry still slows down depending on how much geometry there is in the context you add to - so the more you add, the slower it gets. But OSX had a bug that made it even worse.

Both editions of the application, and the SDK, had it. In the last MR cycle, the code was fixed, and the SDK and the Windows app, called the new code,.. but somehow the OSX app source didn't get changed to call the new code.
It would be interesting to see the MAC results of new tests.. against the old ones run on 8.0M2

(unless your Pilou and still use v6 )
Time to upgrade! And that goes for your IE6 as well! I can see you hiding it!!
the funny of the thing is that the "Greyout!" menus on the V6 is not the same at each restart!
So I have on the same time a loto game!@unknownuser said:
IE6 as well!
You seems to say that the new V8 don't work without IE xxx ? Or only your tricky UI plugs?

Since upgrading to M3 I have blacked out bars in shader light and 1001 bit in the data entry bars and I can't see what Iam typing. Is there anywhere I can redownload M2 or is there a fix
many thanksDan

M3 seems to be a bit faster, but it simplifies graphics (shadows, then textures) even more agressive, when it's not able to render huge scenes fast enough.
Is there the ability to disable such graphics speculations in SU? I need full graphics in native render even with 1 FPS: AVI export is awful in SU, and if i export frames with smooth animation plugin, I also get some artifacts in styles (lines, watermarks). So, i'd like to set scene transitions times to very low, grab video from screen and speed up result in video editor, but SU kills graphics and my nerves even with scene transitions times = 30 sec

Can you post screenshots? "data entry bars"?

Ah, you are on OSX - that is not an M3 thing - it's and update to Safari to did that.

Enclosed are screen grabs of the blacked out bars, I looked on the sketch up official forum as well and somebody has posted a similar problem on there. I am running OSX 10.7.4 and using Sketchup Pro M3 release Version 8.0.14345
thanks

Thom Thom
Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction, I will send a support note to apple and try and reinstall an older version of Safari

I'm a little late updating .. but now I have no working sketchup on my computer. The installer hunted down and killed all my old versions (back to 5) and when I open the program I have an instant bug splat.
Does anyone know what the runtime error R6025 - pure virtual function call means and how to fix it? -
The installer only installs or reinstalls/repairs v8, so if you are installing v8M3 you loose v8M2 etc BUT all earlier versions of Sketchup should be unaffected...
As you are on new[ish] OS presumably you have the earlier versions to reinstall. How to fix a runtime error R6025.
The recommended procedure is:-
If you have received the message that reads "Runtime error R6025 Pure Virtual Function Call," then the program you are using has been corrupted in some way and will need to be deleted and then re-installed.
Repeated runtime errors of this nature may indicate a problem with the Registry.
You could try using the app's REPAIR option and see if that works, before resorting to uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
Appearing to affect all of the separate Sketchup Registry entries is odd...
It might be advisable to revert to an earlier OS set, saved when you last installed Windows updates etc... Alternatively do you have any Registry repair tools ?
-
I did go ahead an uninstall M3. I use cCleaner for both the uninstall and registry cleanup.. then go back and do the manual empty folder housekeeping.
Thankfully, I had the installer for version 8.0.11752 handy, which is installed and running.
Vertex tools, one of my purchased plugin's is freshly installed but still not showing up so I'll be hunting down version 8.0.3(something) which I am fairly sure is backed up on one of my external drives.
And I agree.. strange that my previous versions were gone. All but the plug in folders from versions 6 onward had the whole folders emptied. SU5 is in tact.
Thanks for the reply.

Did you originally use cCleaner, to uninstall SU 8.0M2 ??
Could IT have been the culprit ?? (Meaning, perhaps it "thought" you wanted to remove ALL old versions of SketchUp ??)
No one else has had any problems, or reported that the v8.0M3 installer/upgrader, touched their versions 7.x, 6.x, etc.

As it's a newish OS, then also check that there are no 'Compatibility Files' issues... and that for example you are indeed putting files etc into Plugins and not some other 'safe' location that Windows deems best for your own good [without telling you!].
This will happen if you don't have FULL Security permissions to the Plugins folder [check it under its Properties...] - You need full permissions for Materials, Components and Styles too... -
ok.. um.. I did not uninstall M2 to install M3. I was not using M2 because of the greyed out menu items, I was using the 8.0.3something - and did not uninstall any version prior to installing M3.
Due to scary updates in other places over the years, I've become very wary of any updates to programs and tend to move....rename and try to hide working programs from installers - which I had done prior to downloading M3.
I had sketchup in a completely different folder (not program files) 3 levels deep, named hidingPVerSU and I still lost them when I installed.I use windows 7.. have been since late in 09 and really don't consider it new anymore since windows 8 is on the horizon. I have gone in and taken ownership of what seems to be every file I have ever accessed on my computer.. given myself admin privs for everything (gawd I miss XP) disabled the UAC and even tried breifly to run everything in XP mode - that was a big fail.
Also.. in another place on my hard drive, I have two back up plug in folders. (that probably need updating but they're in tact)
I am pretty sure I have my installers for previous versions backed up on an external drive so, when I get a chance to, I'll be searching them for the version that was working before I tried to use M3
-
But v8M3 fixed the 'grayed-out menus', as well as some other issues ???
You seem to have got yourself into a terrible tangle... -

Well, I would say.. on Windows < 6, we could do this with Admin Privs' and no harm. With only User rights, the system would display a popup that warned the user they were moving files/folders from "Programs" and a vague "Some programs may no longer work." (or similar message.)
[Even with that, I have lost count of the number of times I have had to "fix" my Aunt's computer, after she has dragged a program folder onto the desktop (which is also a folder.)]
Anyway.. I don't think you can fool Windows 6+ by doing that anymore. It is keeping track of where you copy folders from any of the "special folders."
I would strongly suggest, you instead manually create and name, a "Restore Point" before running such upgrades / installs.
Sometimes an installer will call restore itself (and that's fine, one extra, no problem.) Some installers don't. Your named restore point should not get automatically cleaned up.P.S. - I do not miss XP, because I have not upgraded. (I have to maintain 3 XP and 3 Win7 PCs in my family, and the XPs are so much simplier, and have far less headache.)

You seem to have got yourself into a terrible tangle...hehe.. yep.. that's why I went ahead and downloaded it and installed it. I read the release notes and thought.. oh good - update time.
shame on me
