[Tutorial] DR Spawner V-ray 1.49.01

That ... is not normal... I have not seen that behaviour. I'd recommend you contact ASGVis Support.
-
Ugh.. I mean ChaosGroup USA - which is their new name. I can't get used to the change of name.

Does anyone else notice that DRSpawner is using massive amounts of CPU power? I have it installed on two dual-core computers and its taking up 50% of the CPU resources on each. Just wondering if this is by design or is it a bug.
i have EXACTLY this issue.
i even posted about it on the old ASGVis forum, before it got changed to chaosgroup...
(this is mine, but i can't find the asgvis forum link anymore (surprisingly))if anyone had any idea, about what's going on, i (we) would be glad.
rspierenburg, what OS and CPU do you have? i have the same issue with a 32bit Vista with Intel C2D SL9400 and 64bit Win7 with Intel C2D E8400. or is it maybe with the installation? (1.49.01)

Rodrigo, Thank you ! for that great tutorial. I've cut the render time in half

Your welcome, How many computers are you connecting?
-
I connected with a LAN cable a notebook (4 cores) to my MacBook Pro (2 cores).
I don't know if it should be like that, but the second pc kicks in only in the rendering phase, meaning that in the LC calculating phase it's only my main pc working.
Oh, and I did have some problem with the textured geometry, that came out rendered as solid color. It took me a while to figure out that all it takes is to check the "Asset Collection" box. Maybe you could add that to the tutorial.
btw is it better to use LAN connection rather wifi? -
Added "asset collection" settings to the tutorial.

That depends on your wireless connection, if you have the same speed as your wired connection is the same thing. If not, the wired connection, most of the times is much faster than the WI-FI connection.
Regards

LAN is better than WLAN. Even if you have a WLAN with good speed, it's less reliable - random drop in connectivity etc.
-
I thought so... for example the LAN Cable that I'm using is CAT5e 1000 Mbps. I don't think that Wifi can beat that... (?)
BTW did someone tried to render IES lights with DR Spawner ?

It's not even about speed - it's about reliability. Just a minor drop in connectivity which you might not notice while browsing can cause havoc for your render.

I'm trying to run a DR render on two mac. Unfortunately, during the rendering, it is used only computer's master processor. Below is the content of the window (10.0.1.19 is the address of the customer):

Very good point.

Hellooo ā¦ i have a problem making this thingā¦ when i render a light model it takes me the slaves but when i make a big model it says on the slavesā¦error receiving sceneā¦ thank you for your help

I'm having troubles syncing my textures properly. How exactly do we create access to the texture folder in a 'single network', and what about the textures that are in sketchup's temp folder? Ive been able to be partially successful by copying the texture folder on each computer, but It's a hassle to always update them for each render, and the temp folder content is always changing too. Is there also a way to change the default sketchup texture temp folder through some settings?
-
I handle it with a networkdrive. I enabled the networksharing for my folder with my stored textures on my source computer and connect each other computer and the source computer itself in the exact same way. So each computer is able to access any used texture in the model. For example "R:\Textures\Tile.jpg". But i don't have any idea for the tempfolder. Maybe make sure that you use only Textures from the shared folder?!

Hello,
I'm trying to set up Distributed Rendering Spawner according to the tutorial but can somebody explain me what exactly must be turned on on 'slaves' and what on 'leading computer'? I've been looking for the answer on the forums but I havent't found it. I've tried different possibilities and during rendering I can see that DR Spawner is turned on but 'the slave' isn't working. Thanks for help
-
You need to run DR Spawner on Slave computers and set your master computer to use Distributed Rendering.
-
This is surprisingly still relevant five years later. Works like a boss with Amazon's EC2 servers. Thanks, Rodrigo!
-
Hi
Can someone indicate me if that's possible tostart a render on slave computers only, in order to keep the main computer available for working on sketchup during render ?
Thanks
-
Only with the latest 1.6 beta.
