Quickest way is to find the helix.rb script - that will quickly make a helix shape,
The select the edges and use another tool like TubeAlongPath.rb to extrude a circualr profile [keep the number of segments sensible as this'll all multiply up and kill your processor...]
You now have one spiral 'thread' of the rope.
Select it and use Rotate.Ctrl to make apolar array 360 degrees, immediately type /xxx where xxx is the number of threads in the rope - perhaps 12 - you can keep trying different ones until it looks right.
The threads are repeated twisted around the vertical axis...

If you want a non-straight rope bend it with Fredo's tools ShapeBender or Scale or use something like Chris Fullmer's ComponentStringer.rb could do it - where you make a small piece if helix threads and copy it along a 3D path...

          Hi toke,

One of the best tutorials on ropes I have ever seen is that Of Taff Goch here:

So Component Stringer is here πŸ˜‰

Some helix plugs are here; (you have right to use the search engine of the forum πŸ˜‰

I found the reason. You need to group the component

                        Hi Take,

If you really want to modelthe rope, you will easily find yourself with an extremely large model that is (almost) impossible to work with. Would a solution to do it with only the rope texturebe okay?

                        Gai...
