Looks like he used an Early Version of Lathe.rb.

If I make it look easy...It is probably easy

Notice, he kept his mesh clean. Almost all quads.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

                      What app did he use?

The software was officially sold with the name of SuperDelineo or SupraDelineo, but most of its users called it simply SD (read 'eseh-dee). I dont know which version was used here.

                        Wow Tig! Quite perfect.

I may be wrong, but I suspect that the triangular faces are part of an array of pyramids surrounding the upper part of the cup.

                        Time for a lathe&array ruby plugin? 😉

CF's Component Stringer does the job already - easily added with a small pyramid component [make path in two parts as it can't handle loops] - then explode instances back into main geometry...LathedVasePyramids.pngLathedVasePyramids.skp
