      Hi,

How do I have to edit an image that I import into SU so that I can output it as a .dxf?
I have managed to do this a few times, but I don't really remember exactly what I did. Often the .dxf was empty.
Which options do I have to select for the .dxf export?
Is there perhaps a tutorial on this topic?

      Kind regards
      Alohaa

Depends on the image. Presumably by "image" you mean a raster image. Import it and trace it with the various drawing tools. I just did this a few minutes ago to make a thing for 3D printing.

Another option, if the image is suitable is to make a PNG image with transparent background and use Image Trimmer from TIG's SKM Tools to create the geometry.

While not related you can trace (Path: Trace Bitmap) an image file using Inkscape and then export it as an svg which can then be imported to Sketchup. Then you can export it as a dxf file.

Quality of the import will depend on the quality of the original image. I attached a sample skp file to see what you can accomplish with Inkscape and Sketchup.

            Thank you.
SU may not import an .svg file!

              Is a useful free app.
But you will often need to manually fix a few things - e.g. tiny edges may be missing from the imported DXF etc...

The quality of the imported image will be determined by the original picture. You can see how you can use Inkscape with Sketchup by looking at the attached sample skp.
