How to import max files to sketchup with textures preserved
-
HI guys, Ive tried several ways of exporting max files to sketchup thru different format. 3ds, dae, obj, dwg.
i dont have success with textures and UV information. Can somebody help me? Our office have huge huge library of high quality, very well textured models which I need to import to my SU scene.

exporting to collada should have an option to write texture out to a folder with the mesh. same for obj If the textures aren't packed with the import then it can't find them.

Still no success with importing 3ds max models with textures. I particularly want to import some organic stuff and fully textured plants and flowers all in 3ds Max format. Im sure there are many out there who's got some proven method.

If you export to .dae in Max to a folder on your desktop are the textures getting packed to that folder also?

I use http://www.fluidimporter.com/ Open MAX file, collapse all VRAy materials to be Standard (might need to install a converter script), then export as OBJ - Using the Bryce setting usually works. When importing with FluidImporter, make sure you turn off Merge Coplanar and turn on Triangulate. I find this works the best then I run ThomThoms CleanUp. WARNING - Hi Poly models from Max imported into SketchUp can seriously become very heavy. A 3-4MB OBJ file can very easily become a 10-20MB SketchUp file. If you are using V-Ray 2.0 I would make proxies right away.

I have heard some good news about the simlab plugin:

Thanks for the info Majid..This simlab plugin works perfect, things exports to skp format in seconds. I tried exporting one flower from our evermotion archmodels. Once i open the skp file, It contains over 123000 faces! and file is +20MB for one flower! You are right Valerostudio -I guess this is where vray proxy will come in handy.
