Metric system wanted!

Isn't it that they are just replacements for normal unicode characters? So if you have no font that has these code points, you see missing characters, if you have these code points you see black&white TrueType vector glyphs, and if you have special colored emoji support, they are "overlaid" (replaced) with the color ones?
-
^ yeah, seems that way.
and I don't think sketchup has special support for them as I'm just getting monotone versions which can be tinted instead of full color support.
the font shows up in the available fonts panel (which is what prompted me to mess around with it) but I can't use them from there (via keyboard entry) and instead, drag them in from the characters panel -

Windows 8.1 shows a few more than win 7
When I copy paste them into 3D text:
Maybe it has to do with fonts installed on the machine?
-
Definitely a matter of how the system renders the given Unicode character using the available font.
-
since ios 5 they have used UTF-8 encoded png images, and you can extract and 'use as image' in SU if you wanted to...
there were 846 in Mavericks, probably more in Yosemite, mostly novelties...

unscientific observation regarding the poll:
people who were voting in the wee hours EST (1-3a.m.) tend to use emoticons/netspeak.. (the vote was 6to1 at one point)
now that we're in 'normal' hours, the vote is leveling out.
