While I don't think it is as bad as a Mac port of Windows program, the interface is not as good as the Windows version (figure that one out). There certainly is a Mac legacy with SketchUp. However each version comes out and the interface is not fixed with obvious problems. Toolbars and palettes is one. AA and poor Retina support is another.

On the other hand we can edit multiple files at once (if they aren't too large) and we can print pdf easily.

So exciting to see a 64-bit version of SU out! To install the 64-bit version, do I have to unistall the 32 bit version? Can I have both installed at the same time? Earlier posts on this thread suggest so but on the SU download page it says you must remove the 32-bit version before installing the 64-bit version. Any feedback on this please?

You can install and use differing versions of SketchUp on a computer. You can not install both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of SketchUp 2015. So if you are using a version earlier than 2015, you can install 2015 64-bit without affecting your current version.

I am still struggling with loading some of my old reliable scripts into 2015. (Repair Broken Lines not withstanding) for some this I can change my work flow. But, for some scripts that I bought from SMUSTARD or whatever, years go that have an RBS extension, How do I load those. Plugin store of course uses RBZ.

            Any advice?

            thx,

you can put them in the plugin folder manually.. the old way. (i don't know where it's at on windows.. someone else will have to tell you).

if you want to install them via sketchup itself, there's a quirky little workaround you can try..

get all your .rb and .rbs files together along with any supporting folders.. select them then right-click-> Compress Items (or, do whatever you have to do to make them into a .zip).. so now you have a zip containing all the plugins.
change the name of that zip to .rbz (example.zip --> example.rbz)

now use sketchup to install that .rbz and all the plugins inside it will go into the plugin folder for you.

(probably better to install them manually πŸ˜‰ ..but, it is possible and it's a decent way to move a collection of plugins between computers etc.)

Thanks Jeff. That work around worked. I did a test run on a routine, and it worked great.

Kudos, huzzahs and cheers all around. 😍

yeah, it's cool because all the plugins load up and are ready for use when doing it with the .rbz (.RuBy_Zip)

The first v2015 Maintenance Release M1 is now out.
If you download the appropriate installer from the usual SketchUp pages, then you will find it's now 15.1...
But currently Trimble have not been able to update their Release Notes which still speak of 15.0...
                          πŸ˜’

I understand that the main changes were made to fix issues experienced by a few PC/MAC users who could not install 15.0... without a crash ! and to fix another rare crash with some users when trying some Layout fly-outs...

I do not see a maintenance release at sketchup.com. Where did you see this?

You won't see it as yet. But the downloadable file should be the newer maintenance release.

As I explained - the SketchUp 2015 Release Notes are not currently up to date with the installers' actual 15.1... versions.
But if you download and install from the current links you'll get v15.1...
Unfortunately the Release Notes still say 15.0... because they have not yet been updated !
And Trimble have made no proper announcement !

We are actually doing a favor to any users who were having problems installing v2015 in its initial format, and to the tardy SketchUp/Trimble guys - by announcing their updated version, which has been available since the end of last week, but which Trimble have failed to publicize thus far !
Why they have elected to do this, when M1 is to help users with difficulties in installing v2015, and they won't know there is a fixed update available - available since last Friday - it'll be Wednesday shortly !

What "usual Sketchup pages" would that be? When I upgraded, I mistakenly clicked out of the page for the download and it was only by chance that I found my way to a page with the correct download file. I should have bookmarked it, but I didn't. Shouldn't Trimble have sent out an email to licensed users?

The issue was not installer crash - it was a crash upon launching SketchUp once it had been installed. This was happening on certain custom locations such as root of a drive or unicode paths. The patch prevent the crash and let SketchUp work in the root of a drive. Though installing to unicode paths will still fail to load the Ruby StdLib so some extensions might not work.
