Hmmm... I had read when it first came out that if you didn't upgrade to 2013 you'd be on the hook for the full next version. That's a load off.

nah.. it's something like- if you miss a year, worst case scenario will be you have to still pay for the missed year (so possibly $200 to go from su8 to su2014).. i do hope they come up with some sort of prorated rate or a flat 'penalty' of maybe $50 max (as in-- going from su8 to 2014 would be $139 or something)?

It's really incredible that this weird statement still hasn't been fixed and replaced by a concrete number for one year, two years, three years...

I just read the things they offer, and in my opinion, they are not really looking at the fundamentals... plus they are flat out duplicating some things apparently? (like their extension warehouse) I guess Google ran out of "cool" ideas, then sold it to Trimble. Now Trimble is running out of "cool" ideas.
Here is what I'd love to have in a new version, which they keep missing but I think is the most important though mundane:
- Faster Ruby plugins... must-have.
- Ability to selective disable/enable different inferencing mechanisms (red/blue/green, same-line, etc)
- Built-in sub-layer support.
- A new mechanism for rotation that lets us automatically rotate from a specific point (or, the center of the bounding box..) with a pre-defined axis (select your axis from a list).
- More exposure of the program's controls to the Ruby API...
- More polygon fidelity (so I can zoom in without the polys evaporating).. might require 64-bit...

But i would like to see some major improvements for 500 Euros, that sort of money can buy other products, that dont crash or lag out when your building large architecture subjects
EVGA Workstation dual Xenon system, and the i have not seen any better productive GPU use as its still CPU reliant.Seems a huge shame that they are investing your money into a database to sell you more products, and not bringing Sketchup into 64bit OS, or even GPU use...
currently can anyone show me a proof we are not being held to ransom subscribe or get a bill for not backing the database..
If they dont bring the software up to date, will they lose more than they presume to gain..
Programs like Blender, are snapping up users of sketch up due to the free and built in rendering animation and more, when your paying for a piece of software it has to beat the free ware options out there, why else make a investment, ? in a win95 32bit program, with some go faster stickers on it -

Now, since I'm being dense this morning, is the "one year of major version upgrades" basically the same as "SU 2014" (major release) as Norbert states, or does it pertain to any major changes/fixes over the next calender year?

you'll get everything released during this time frame, i.e. all maintenance releases as well as all new major versions (1/y).
