What Industries use SketchUp?
-
I recently ran a poll on SketchUcation asking people how they used SketchUp:
Poll on ways people use SketchUp
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=45275
The result showed 4 top uses, and an equal amount of use in many other uses:
It looks like the top uses are:
- Architectural Design and Visualization
- Interior design
- Product design
- Renderings and Presentations, and
- FUN!
Now my colleague who prompted the original question is wondering what industry SketchUp Users work in, so I want to start another poll on industries - probably requiring each respondent to select just one.
I can include about 30 in the poll - What industries should I include?

I use it for technical furniture drawings, of course 3D presentations and like a tool to draw my ideas fast in 3D. I would like to have more technical engineering styff in future in these programm. SU team could take a lot from Solid Works for example and get these all into SU, could be like an special module for those who needs these, like me
You could Ask why I do not use SolidWorks, AutCad Rhinoo .. they are expencive. I am very strong in AutoCad but these programm someow makes me angry all the time I use it Solidworks ir cool prog. but too expensive. Basically I have started Su 2 yearas ago and I have accustomed with it so these tool is for me like a pencil, I can not work with out it. I try to use it everywhere I can and I would like to see it more and more upgraded in future

That is what is confusing about the two surveys. The first was "what do you use it for", (e.g. technical 3D drawings, the new one is "What industry are you in"
Contract Furniture Industry?
Industrial Design?
Architectural Firm?
Interior Design? -
Training

It’s a tough one for me to answer as in my professional career I have used SketchUp for many different things not to mention for many different service lines within our company. (We are a global consulting based company)
Primarily I use SketchUp for construction based work, but that will vary from road designs, bridge design, photomontage implementation of proposed work, conceptual based renders, arch visualisation, creation of models for military simulation (VBS2) and the list goes on. I am based in our Landscape Architecture department however I will do work for anyone within our company who needs me particular skills.
I typically use SketchUp as a stepping stone to bring into other programs, 3ds max, VBS2, Unity, Photoshop and so on.And who can forget, I do use SketchUp for fun as well however my personal time to use SketchUp is almost next to nothing now

I am a lawyer. I selected the fun option.

Hi Al, hi folks.
I use it in mechanical engineering to help in designing piping systems.
Just ideas.

Oil structure's underwater habitats,(a dry space for welders), for welding repairs. I use Sketchup to model the structure and than design the habitat to fit around the structure's members to get an air tight seal to keep out the water during the welding repairs. And the process is fun to boot, a win win for me.

Darn I have tried to make the image smaller. I have it at .5" x .4" and still it takes up the whole section. Sorry about the size, didn't mean for it to be that large.

Editorial Illustration and in combination with photography.

Illustration/Artist -- I use it to generate 1, 2 and 3 point perspective reference imagery (for drawings and paintings)... often in conjunction with Maxwell (for photographic-type lighting reference).
Best,
Jason.
