Making realistic terrain

I need to make some terrain, just a garden but I want to make it look more natural. Any tips or "How to's"?

• Smoove

These should increase your knowledge and allow for great result using 'out of the box' methods before utilising any plugins.

Apologies for the slow reply and thanks for the help.

I'm using SU on a apple imac, I only seem to have the options - smoove, stamp, drape, add detail and flip edge. I don't have the from scratch option Rich talks about.

The toolbar has all the buttons.

In the menus the functions are split between the Draw and Tools menu,
