My Mac Book has crashed twice in the last two days, guess which of the programmes did it.

When I say crash I don't mean force quit and carry on; I mean nothing responding and I have to hard shutdown the computer 😒

Please note Sketch Up has never and will never crash it.

I'll say AutoCad. But it could also be the fact it feels neglected because of your iPhone 4S πŸ˜‰

Download the free D'oh Book for SketchUp

        Rich,

That could be true, I now have to wait till the beginning of November for the replacement to arrive. 😠

I use VRay because I like the easy user interface, is indigo similar?

angry birds is my vote but it's probably vray. I had problems with it during my trial so I ended up with indigo.

maybe ms office as well? (just saying that because I've never installed it.. I use apple office instead.. all the other listed apps are ok on Mac)
edit- oh wait-- maybe autocad-- I installed it, launched it maybe twice.. didn't like it but it didn't crash.. point being, I don't have any real experience with that one either..

            final guess-- v ray

I like the indigo ui much better. it's easy and straightforward (once you spend a day or two familiarizing yourself with it.) great results but I imagine longer render times than with vray

As a beta tester in some apps, I experienced memory leaks and system crashes under OSX. It was expected anyway.
What I learned is to start OSX at safe mode, (oh it exists under OSX too), just hold shift as you're rebooting. This clears all log files, then reboot normally again. Exactly as under win systems! Otherwise you'll face crashing running the same app. So let's keep it clean.
If an app still results in memory leaks, please trash it as soon as possible.

I vote for Autocad. It was a dog. I doubt that it has improved much.

AND when is Autocad LT for Mac coming to Britain? How long do we have to wait?? 😑

Some 3d applications that never crashed OSX 10.6.8:
                      sketchup
                      zbrush
                      sculptris
blender (the old bl 2.49b never crashed either lol)
                      modo
                      3dcoat (except some betas, acceptable)
All these under nVidia graphics (I think this is important)

                      2d apps?
Any adobe suite (I don't remember even an app crash BTW)

Most of these OSX crashes aren't real crashes. It's the graphics related UI that crashes. Indeed, if you have a net access from another mac, you can still shut down - reboot OSX.

Oh, SU can't be completely discounted; it's a couple of years ago now but I had a long period of total-lockup issues on an iMac because something about the component browser would suck up memory until nothing was left and the system just locked. There's a thread somewhere in the SU bugs forum all about it.

True most of the crashes are SU related but thats because I jam its throat with polygons. Ordinarily it behaves very well and hardly has system meltdowns. However THEA recently has given me two system meltdowns!

Toby, you should get a copy of Ribbonsoft's QCad. It's only Β£30, and it works off a stick (portable). Autoplod also reads its files very well.

I was on the original Acad for Mac beta team (there you go- I'll never be beta testing for them again now!! πŸ˜† ) I got so annoyed with Autodesk's contempt for getting the software to run smoothly- it was a real dog. I'm not surprised to hear that nothing has changed.

However, I'd be interested to hear what LT is like (for Mac).

It's also worth taking a look at Rhino for Mac which is nice and fast. πŸ˜„
