SketchUp/OSX Lion Known Google SketchUp Lion Issues

In reference to number 7 listed above, you can turn off the restoration of application windows 'feature' in the Preferences/General tab.
Yes, I 'upgraded' before reading this post.

Just for the devs to know:
in webdialogs when you would use the input type 'file' the path send to Sketchup is replaced by 'C:/fakepath'
Haven't found a solution yet. This has to do with the html 5:
http://acidmartin.wordpress.com/2009/06/09/the-mystery-of-cfakepath-unveiled/For me, a problem, since i use this to import xml files in Sketchup.

Just to let you know : updated both iMac + MBP to Lion,
SU8 causes no problems at all (no plug-ins installed)

Wondering...
1) ... did Lion come with a version of MRI Ruby, if so, what version and patchlevel?
(Console constants:RUBY_VERSION
andRUBY_PATCHLEVEL
)2) ... did Apple ever get to the intitial relase (1.0) of MacRuby and did Lion distro with it?

However, when I upgraded Lion to 10.7.1, I got the white line bug described in this thread. I don't know if this is a result of the internal Intel graphics chip on the MBA, or if all users running SU on Lion 10.7.1 are noticing it?
Hello,
I too am curious if others are seeing this bug with 10.7.1. Anyone? It does sound like it is related to the Intel graphics card, but it certainly sounds like a frustrating issue that needs to, at a minimum, be reported to Apple. If you do see the issue, can you go to Preferences > OpenGL and, just as an experiment, turn off "Use Hardware Acceleration" to see if the issue will go away on relaunch? That step will confirm the issue is related to the graphics card. Christophe - have you upgraded to 10.7.1 and are shadows still behaving for you?
Thanks in advance,
Tricia

I'm having all sorts of crashing and hanging issues with Lion. Particularly when working on files on network drives.
It's really very, very unsatisfactory for me. Anyone else having the same problems?
This sounds really bad and I'm sorry you are running into it. Can you give me a few steps to reproduce it? I'm not immediately able to reproduce a hang or crash. Also, is anyone else seeing this issue?
Thanks in advance,
Tricia

Tricia,
While working on Lion, could you ask the Google team to have a look at the problem of Safari 5.0.6 not showing images in Web Dialogs.
At this stage, we need to have some technical details on how SU configures web dialogs when created with
set_html
. This will help us to validate the workarounds we are exploring. Thanks very much

Tricia,
Thanks very much. It becomes pretty urgent now, because we have users with Safari 5.1 who get the problem.
At this stage, we need to understand what SU does under the hood in order to find a workaround.

Hi Tricia,
Actually, I can't reproduce the error at will, it seems to happen without any specific user intervention. Because of the issues I had working from network drives, I have moved all my current work to my local drive but there is no improvement. I reckon I can get maybe 2 hours at most out of SU before it locks up and needs a 'Force quit'.
Makes no difference whether I use a big model or a small one. Sometimes it will lock up when the model first loads. The annoying thing is that there is no crash (and hence no error report) just hanging. I have used Activity monitor and the hanging application is doing nothing. No CPU activity at all.
I think it might be related to Autosaving. Lion Autosaves, but so does SU. I have turned off Sketchup's autosave feature for now. I'll let you know how I get on.
-
Yes - thanks! Do let me know if turning off autosave makes a difference. I worried about autosave on Lion too, but we haven't yet found any bugs.
If autosave doesn't seem to be the culprit, it would be good to rule out Ruby plugins by launching SU with Ruby plugins disabled. To do that on the Mac:
-
Launch SketchUp
-
Try to recreate the bug
-
Close SketchUp
4.Open terminal and type the following two lines to launch SU with Ruby disabled:cd /
Applications/Google\ SketchUp\ 8/SketchUp.app/Contents/MacOS/SketchUp -DisableRubyAPI YES -
Try to recreate the bug (if you can't recreate it, Ruby plugins are the culprit)
-
Exit SketchUp
-
Launch SketchUp the normal way - Ruby plugins should again be enabled.
Thanks in advance,
Tricia

TriciaThanks Tricia
that's a very handy bit of code, are there any more like that available?not only Lion issues
it does show me that the inability to 'print to scale' on more than one A4 sheet is a BUG not my plugins.
also, can the .DS_Store be responsible for the ongoing 'painttool' bug?

There are two Mac-specific bugs we are hoping to fix in the next maintenance release of SketchUp that sound related to this. One is that scaling is not accurate when exporting to PDF/EPS, and the other is that the print width and height settings aren't remembered, which means you can't print to multiple pages. Are you running into one or both of these?

Printing to Scale over multiple A4 sheets is my main problem, but I have also tested drawing an A4 Sheet minus 10mm margins and printing at 1:1 and SU either wants to print it on 4 pages [but can't] or if I set the page size to match the paper size, it scales the output at approx 50%.

Can you describe this bug more?
if I set 'auto activate paint tool' in preferences, I expect it to activate the 'color' dialog box when I select the 'paint tool', which it does, However, it also sets the 'paint bucket' as the startup tool, which is never what I want in a blank drawing or even an pre-existing one.
I normally use an applescript to start SketchUp that allows me to set 'auto paint tool' as a preference, but start with a different tool ,preserves my custom toolbars and refreshes the view [the other mac startup bugs].
I had stopped setting this preference because it seemed to make SU more buggy.
On reselecting it to refresh my memory for this reply it exposed a bug in 'booleanhelper.rb' in relation to 'Sketchup::SelectionObserver', I'll report that to the developer, but thought I should mention it as it works fine without 'auto paint tool'.

Thanks in advance,
Tricia

Thanks Tricia! I'll try with autosave disabled first, then I'll try with plugins disabled.

I have found that the Add location button to geolocate your model gives me a window with Unauthorised Error 401 in it. Anyone else find this?
BTW I am new to the forum! -

Welcome ...
What is your Safari version ?
I tried it on Win, and got a rendering error:
-
Ok I see the problem... The Account SignIn page has been changed. When I sized the window... there is a yellow banner at the bottom that says "Welcome to Google's new sign-in page"
The new size is saved in the "WebDialog_ModelHere" subkey. (Easy fix!)

@dan, it's working on Safari 5.0.6, so it should also work on Safari 5.1.0, if that's your thought.
@thecadman, have you tried the other 'Google Toolbar' links i.e. the warehouse, photoTexture, do they work?
I'm not on OSX 10.7, but I had problems before I registered my Google account from within the 3D Warehouse dialog.

Given lots of underlying technology has changed in Lion, are the messages when SketchUp launches (which most users won't see unless they are developers) benign anymore?
Previously its just a bit sloppy that the same function if defined twice. But now, picking up something from an installed Framework vs SketchUp could cause problems, no?
