CraigD says HI!

Hi Craig,
Street view only came to Ireland this summer so it's a fledgling at the moment. I have invested time with the new SU/Google Earth features. And dabbled with Buildling Maker. Only 3 submission so far and that was practice.
Hope to develop this more this year and currently taking the GE3D course!
Coming from an Engineering environment it's all new but fun none the less.
More detailed satellite maps would be nice

Thank you for the welcome back! Street View is an incredible asset and has been very helpful to me in determining whether buildings truly exist in a location, and in many cases I've been able update building facades with new Street View imagery! ...but no, I don't get to handle the keys to the Street View car. I appreciate your efforts to help make Google Earth better, both with highly detailed SketchUp models and with the faster/easier Building Maker models. It's through the efforts of Super Modelers and experienced SketchUp users like you that the 3D Buildings layer of Google Earth and SketchUp are the incredible tools that they are today!
With improvements to Geo-Data tools in mind, I wonder if I can pose a request to the SketchUp community at large. Currently there is a focused effort to update the map data of Sudan in the face of their historic elections. The help that I'd like to ask, is if you know of online communities that could assist in the effort to improve the accuracy of the map data using Google Map Maker. As stated here, (http://www.satsentinel.org/blog/lets-build-better-map-southern-sudan), "Without basic geospatial information, itβs difficult for humanitarian agencies and first responders to monitor and evaluate the risks and current needs, target their efforts, and mobilize proper resources. At times like these, it is critical to have good maps on roads, settlements, voting stations, hospitals, buildings and other services - with both local and official names - to generate better, faster responses."
The reason I ask you all for help, is because over the years I've discovered that you are a very conscientious group who thinks globally and considers the sharing of important pertinent information to be paramount in creating a better community. If you yourself can assist in the map making effort, or if you know of any folks who could lend a hand, I would really appreciate the help! http://www.google.com/mapmaker
Again, I'm glad to be back in touch with you all and look forward to any help you can supply. Feel free to ask me any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.
Cheers!

Hi Craig
That map maker looks interesting. Never heard of it before.
-
Good to see you back Craig!

The new beginning for Southern sudan is definitely a positive. This project obviously requires a knowledge of the region to help out! I hope there is something members here could do and if there are i encourage them to participate

Hi Craig and (also) welcome back!
Well, that's a big project and I hope you can get some help here (or anywhere else) this is something I cannot personally help...
I have already tried MapMaker once and now I revisited - the same issue; my country is not in the list where edits could be done (although Google Maps are not accurate everywhere).
-
hi craig,
I am glad you are back! best regards.
-
Hey Craig! Hope all is well and good to see you back in the fold!

Will it be possible in the near future, lets say 2 years from now where google street view
converts automatically everything into basic 3d The tech exists now to convert 2 pics into 3d. -
Hey Craig, long time no see.
Welcome back, looks like you are a very busy guy these days, keep up the great work.
I'm gonna check out the map maker, sounds awesome.

Thanks guys! It's great to be back and to see all these familiar folks again! Tricia says hello by the way! We spoke today and as always she was all smiles.
With Rich's help, I've created another post about updating maps for the Southern Sudan region using Map Maker. I encourage everyone to take a look at what it's all about, and lend a hand with mapping if you can. I'd also love to get any feedback from folks about the Map Maker tool, any issues you find and improvements you'd like to see.
Again, it's nice to be back in touch with everyone! Please say hi if you haven't.
Cheers,
- CraigD
