    Hi Fredo,
First congratulation for this plugin (very usefull).
I will try to explain my problem clearly in English (i am french native)
    To be more explicit:
I have made some tries with complex and very simple models (simple cube), the problem is exactly the same.
(I might think that the problem come from the ToolBar display, but I am not expert).

    • When I launch the tool, sketchup became lagy (almost freezing) and the toolbar make long time to appear (minimum 20 seconds).
    • It is mostly impossible to change the parameters on the tool bar (take 1, 2, 3 minutes to respond). I also try to change the settings with the Sketchup toolbar (the one at the right bottom) and the problem is still the same.
    • The probleme is the same if I want to select an edge.
    • If i do not change parameters (avoiding me 5 to 10 minutes of waiting), I can validate the action and Sketchup does the round corner. But it is also very laggy (2 to 3 minutes between my click and the corner drawing).

To resume, Sketchup become really lagy as soon as I launch the round corner tools.

The strangest thing is that when I use the round corner, not only sketchup freeze but my whole mac interface.

I hope my explanations are clear.

    Thanks for your help,
    Julien

      Julien,

      1. Do you notice the same lagy behavior when you use my other plugins using the button palette interface (such as Curvilft or Tools On Surface)?

      2. When you execute the operation (click with green check mark), do you see the progressbar immediately and then progressing slowly, or do you see it appearing only at the end briefly? This will tell me if the problem is in the GUI refresh or in the global execution of the ruby code.

      3. Also, do you have a real crash on your Mac, or is it just álmost freezing'?
To Mac users: Do you have the same bad experience with RoundCorner?

      Fredo

        Fredo,

        1. Your other plugin such as Tools On Surface work fine (I just download and test the last version of Tools on Surface)
        2. Yes, the progress bar is working normally (As soon as I execute the operation, progress bar works and quickly). The difficult and laggy thing is to launch the operation.
        3. Not a real crash, my commands doesn't respond until sketchup come back to normal.

        Hope it helps
        thanks

This one is known (and now in SU8 Windows). It will be fixed in the next release of the plugins, but it is harmless.

Do you have the performance problem on Windows too?

Also, Can you download and install Curviloft. It includes LibFredo6 3.5, and it is better to see if the problems also occurs with this more recent version (the issues seems to be with the GUI).

Ok, so I have to wait for the next release?
I am sorry but I am not using Windows anymore -)
I was used to work with sketchup 7 and the round corner plugin without any problems.

I have download and install curviloft, it works really fine and quick.
I have retry roundcorner, still having the same problem.

              thanks fredo

Then, it would be helpful if other Mac users could tell if they have similar performance issues.

                  Fredo:

I use Mac OS 10.6 and SketchUp 8.

                  I have dropped RoundCorner%202 & LibFredo6%203 into the
plugins folder which is nested in the
Sketchup folder which is nested in the
Google SketchUp 8 folder which nested in the
Application Support folder which is nested in the
Library folder which is nested in the
                  Hard Drive icon

When I start up SketchUp 8 I see no new tools in the Tools drop-down menu.

Please tell me what I've done wrong.

                  Thank you

                    Hi Cliff,

You may need to activate it under Preferences (Sketchup menu on the Mac) > Extensions first.

cliff, those are the folders you're left with upon unzipping.. you have to open those folders to get to these files:

                      %(#FF0000)[ROUNDCORNER_Dir_21
                      ZLoader__RoundCorner.rb]

                      and

                      %(#FF0000)[LIBFREDO6_Dir_34
                      LibFredo6.rb]

those four items go in the plugins folder at the same path you stated in your post.

that aside, i'm wondering if it's ok to upload an installer when someone on the forum has a question such as this..
packagemaker comes with osx developer tools and it's pretty easy and fast to make an osx .pkg

Got a quick tutorial for this?
And it let the user install to the correct SU version if he/she has multiple?

this is the reference i've used:
                          http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/PackageMakerUserGuide/Introduction/Introduction.html

i've tested quite a few different plugins with it on 4 different macs and haven't encountered any problems or bad installs..

your second question though, no, i haven't tried doing that yet as i've always just done it out of personal curiosity.. i made the installers version specific but i'm pretty sure they can be done as one installer for multiple versions.. i haven't really explored it any further but i might get into it again and figure out some more options.

I'm a bit confused because I use the plugin on three different macs (with various SU versions and operating systems) and have never had a problem with it.
Fredo, can you think of any reasons why this may be happening to some people and not others such as conflicting plugins?

                                  hey julien.

i do notice a slight delay in response with RoundCorner (though it's very slight.. nothing like you describe)

                                  as shown in this screenshot:

                                  screen 1.jpg

does that speed things up for you? (you can still access the RoundCorner parameters with the palette closed by pushing the tab key)

                                  also:

i noticed in your ruby warning that you're installing plugins in your user library..
                                  /Users/Ju/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Plugins/ROUNDCORNER_Dir_21/RoundCorner_Algo.rb:1186: warning: Object#id will be deprecated; use Object#object_id

this used to cause a lot of problems on macs but most of the plugin writers have done something to fix it (there are still a few problem rubies out there)

google instructs to install rubies in the system library:
                                  http://code.google.com/apis/sketchup/docs/loading.html

that's where their sample rubies etc are upon a fresh SU install (did you create the user/plugin folder on your own?)

here's a little automator app that will fix your install location:

                                  su7 and su8 version included..

just double click the specific version(s) you have on your machine.
it simply moves all the files out of your User/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/plugins folder ...
and into the proper location of
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/plugins ...then deletes the empty user plugin folder..

you can do this manually if you choose but it should be done.. i don't necessarily think it will fix your RoundCorner problems but it will prevent problems down the road..

                                  dotdotdot

                                      Julien,

What I can do is to prepare a file with traces that you can run. The issue seems to be in the Palette drawing, but I don't see why it can take so long.

                                        Jeff,
I have try to shrink the palette, but does respond for me (still same problem).

However, I change the plugins folder as mention, and try out the roundcorner plugin. I still have the problem, but it responds a little more better.

First improvement, we are on the good way -)

                                        Thanks julien
