Before PushPull would ignore pre-selected faces and only use the face you clicked on.
If you Pre-Pick in SU8 it will push-pull the selected face even if you are not clicking directly on it.

        Oooooooooooh! Significative progress ๐Ÿ˜ฒ ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I have believed that was Push Pull multiple with preselect of some facets ๐Ÿ˜•

Couldn't agree more... This should have been a v.7.2 or something... ๐Ÿ˜

          ~ v 6.4 for me.

SU7 and SU8 are just point upgrades from SU6 IMO. Sketchup is still an awesome programme, but it is pretty much as good as it's ever going to be.

Luckily we have magnificent script writers - I seriously hope that they have stamina to hang on.

There's been some pretty important bug fixes to the API that's going to make a big difference.

So should we consider to spend the upgrade fee for ruby scripters that are able to deliver so much tools in the same time where google give so little... ?

                  Hi all,

I'm unable to install SU8 here, as only the IT guys have Admin rights.

Can someone please answer me 2 quick question?

                  1. Does SU8 support Multi-Cores?
                  2. Does SU8 support >2Gb Memory (we have 12Gb on our Workstation...)

                  Thanks!
                  -Avihay.

You decide - when the plugins that require SU8 comes out.

I'm upgrading to SU8 - even just for the modelling part. Some important fixes and improvement here as well. I don't expect SU to make much a wow factor any more - it's a mature product. There are of course lots of room for improvement - though personally I'd prefer SU being maintained as a platform for where developers can make specialised tools. It's why I like SU - like Firefox, I can install the features I want. I'm not too bothered who makes the actual implementation of the features/plugins as long as the platform for which to build them are good enough for continued development.

Personally I feel that 7.1 was a bigger update - with the speed improvements it had. But SU8 is fine.

new (even very basic) ways to simulate diferent light sources from the sun: NO"

But to be fair, in modeling now we can do better bolean operations (too bad there's the script booltools...damn you Whaat ๐Ÿ˜› ), in animation we now have a litle image preview (i don't even know what to say for this one...), and for maping we can now work even better with google earth (we all know how great quality and professional textures that gives us, unless we're doing it for google earth...is there even someone who does that for a living?).

Soooo...2 years in development for this...lolol

But sincerely, for a professional product we're all in rights to have more improvements, even if the upgrade fee is only about 90$. Check-out out there what you can have for this price...or for just a little more.

Being a mature product do not means to stop is developpement, and more than that, to not take benefits of actual technology and hardware...

SU as a platform ? Yes, I definitly agreee with you on that point, but in this case make the free version open source !! I'm ready to contribute and pay for an active community, rather than for google, who seems to orient SU for his own purposes (Google Earth) and forget specific needs of their pro customers.

I'll not give up SU, but today this software, as a "pro software", is only surviving and evolving because of ruby scripters, and for a entity like Google, it's a real shame.

                                Regards.

I fully agree that that's much to be desired with SU.
UV mapping and animation is one area that would be very useful. (And useful in the areas SU was originally designed for)

I just aren't that surprised any more.

I am really disappointed by sketchup 8. I hoped for 64bit version. I find that in 2010 a "cad" software without 64bit version is unacceptable.

7.1 came with an improved engine with better performance.

                                            Hi thomas

"new" is diferent from "improved", and by "new" i mean a XXI century engine with multicore support for some stuff, 64 bits and at least with the shadow bug solved.

The multicore would be great for some calculations like intersect or animation export (why wait 15 minutes exporting a movie when you can what a hour and half...) or the worst part, the plugins (the only thing that keeps the SK beeing use professionally), some could probably also take advantage of that multicore suport. The 64 bits for more ram, more polygons, more and bigger images, more stuff in the screen at the same time. The "piece of resistance" (forgive my frenchglish... ๐Ÿ˜›) is, if i remember correctly, layout having multicore suport for some stuff because it was need it...ironic isn't it?

Who would tough that in 2010 a old Pentium4 3.4 with 2-4 Gg of ram ddr would be as good (or even faster) than my home desktop with an i7 OC 3.2 with 6Gg DDR3 1600mhz or a any regular graphic worksation...Maybe Ebay still hame some Pentiums to sell, or the "recomended hardware for SK8" is a netbook ... ๐Ÿ˜†

                                            and AMAZING!
The post i did 2 years ago still aplies here (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14207&start=165#p107667๐Ÿ˜ž

                                            "This must be a joke...
For the ones saying this was a good release:

                                            New modeling tools: NO
                                            new animation tools: NO
                                            new uv maping tools: NO
new engine that suport more heavy scenes: NO
new engine that do better images and shadows: NO
new (even very basic) ways to simulate diferent light sources from the sun: NO"

But to be fair, in modeling now we can do better bolean operations (too bad there's the script booltools...damn you Whaat ๐Ÿ˜› ), in animation we now have a litle image preview (i don't even know what to say for this one...), and for maping we can now work even better with google earth (we all know how great quality and professional textures that gives us, unless we're doing it for google earth...is there even someone who does that for a living?).

Soooo...2 years in development for this...lolol

Ha Ha Ha! Even the shadow bug is here too! HA HA HA HA!

This is just getting better and better ๐Ÿ‘

so, I guess you'll be spending your $$ on another program and moving on?

Why not simply donwload the free SK 8, donwload doblecad XT for helping with the dwgs exports and such if needed, buy boltools for 20$, and in the process suport guys like Whaat? Who do you think it's more important to support right now? Plugin developers, that are keeping this (still) alive, or Google, that don't care or respect the user needs unless it's Google earth related? and before you respond count how many plugins you ever used...
